Mewtwo, the genetically engineered Pokémon!

Shadow the Hedgehog, the ultimate lifeform!

What defines us as people, as individuals? Is it the past, and the circumstances of our birth beyond our control? Or might it be the future, unknowable and unreachable?

Perhaps… the truth is that this definition… is ours to decide. In any case, no two characters may be better representations of this introspection than these 2 miracles of science and technology! Today, we settle who truly wears the crown of the Ultimate Lifeform!

Before we begin…

This is a second attempt at our original Mewtwo vs Shadow blog as we were very inexperienced and wanted to give it another shot. But thanks to all of the OG’s who helped start the drunks blogs!

For the media used this time for Mewtwo it's gonna be the same as our Kyogre research blog which will be the main series Games, Anime, and Manga. Unlike last time, we’re not using Trading Card Game stuff, cuz it's stupid lol. Alongside that only supporting evidence will be used from spin offs such as Mystery Dungeon, Ranger, ect.

For Shadow, it’s a bit easier; the games, of course, will be the primary source, as well as any other ‘canon’ material, such as Sonic Prime and Sonic Speed Sim.

Also just like with our Chaos Kyogre blog we had to pivot to image chest so our team can open links due to the Imgur ban in the UK, thats why every link has been ported over, we credited the initial poster whenever was possible

Background:

Mewtwo:

“I see now that the circumstances of one’s birth are irrelevant. It is what you do with the gift of life that determines who you are.”

In the beginning of the world, the Pokémon Mew was believed to carry the DNA of every single being, and that thought fascinated scientists, specifically one Dr Fuji, and after years of testing in order to recreate Mew, he succeeded in creating his own version of Mew. This wasn't just a clone of Mew, but was seemingly stronger, more introspective, and far more unstable as a result.

In Mewtwo's earliest moments, it shared a strange, dream-like connection with Fuji’s deceased daughter, Amber. However, that did not last and as that connection slowly disappeared, it left Mewtwo with nothing, not even a clear memory of who it was talking to, or why it was talking in the first place. That's when it realised that it wasn’t born to be its own being, but it was born to be controlled as a weapon. With this revelation Mewtwo destroyed the lab it was created in and fled, refusing to allow others to define who they are.

However, as Mewtwo fled away, desperate to find a purpose to its life, it stumbled upon someone who was eager to give it one. Enter Team Rocket and its Leader Giovanni. Giovanni wanted a weapon that he could point in a direction and use to destroy whatever may oppose him, but due to its hyper-intelligent mind Mewtwo quickly realized that it was being made into a tool once again. This led Mewtwo to their first real revelation, if the world sees Mewtwo as a weapon made to be lesser than Mew, then they would prove otherwise. Isolating themselves, Mewtwo sent out a challenge to the entire world, “Come to New Island and test yourself against the world’s strongest Pokémon.” To prove their intelligence had long surpassed all others, Mewtwo even created copies of those trainers' Pokémon, but not to befriend them or anything, but to use them as tools. Mewtwo had become no better than the same scientist that created them.

But...something was off, instead of gaining self-esteem and satisfaction out of watching the clones battle their genetically inferior copies, Mewtwo watched as they suffered, felt pain, and cried. Mewtwo realized that even if they’re superior clones, those Pokémon are their own beings, and don't deserve to be used as weapons. And after watching the courage of Ash Ketchum to help others even at the cost of his own life, Mewtwo let go of the idea that life has no meaning. Mewtwo stepped away from the path of violence they were going down, choosing to protect others instead of using them, and to exist on their own terms.

Afterwards Mewtwo decided to travel the world in an attempt to learn more about their past, and to help similarly neglected Pokémon. Stopping by different regions and even meeting up with Ash at several different occasions. And as they learned more about the world and other Pokémon similar to themselves, Mewtwo began to finally understand the question that had plagued its mind since birth, that it didn’t matter where it was born, how powerful it was, or if its existence is justified. All that mattered is that it had a choice, a choice to protect, to save, and to cherish the gift of life.

Shadow:

“I now understand why I am here. I made a promise and I’m here to keep it. Today, I put my past behind me”.

Over fifty years ago, the President of the United Federation asked Professor Gerald Robotnik to lead Project Shadow, a medical program that would become the key to achieving immortality. Gerald initially refused, but he eventually accepted the task under the hopes he’d be able to find the cure to the Neuro-Immuno Deficiency Syndrome that had plagued his granddaughter, Maria Robotnik. His first attempt bore an uncontrollable fruit, the Prototype Ultimate Lifeform, the Biolizard. A flawed creation with weak limbs who was reliant on machinery to survive and after more and more failed experiments Gerald felt as if there were no options left. But as luck would have it, the Black Comet was on track for its annual fifty year orbit by the Earth. The Professor snapped at the opportunity and took the outstretched hand of the leader of the alien race, Black Doom, who offered his DNA to the project, and in return whoever was born from it would deliver him the seven Chaos Emeralds when the Black Comet returned in fifty more years. With the DNA of Black Doom and a new choice of design, Gerald succeeded. He had finally created the Ultimate Lifeform, an immortal, powerful, and highly intelligent being with its own identity and independence, and Maria would dub his finest creation Shadow the Hedgehog.

However, tragedy would soon strike. The government had become uneasy about the project upon learning of Gerald’s encounter with the Black Arms, they began freezing funds and shutting down the ARK, and unfortunately despite his best efforts, Gerald couldn’t keep them away, and they raided the Space Colony. Shadow watched in horror as the girl who he became so close with, his very reason for being born, was shot dead, all because she tried to save him from the G.U.N soldiers. He was launched down to Earth in a space capsule, only to later be captured by G.U.N and put in stasis indefinitely.

Fifty years passed, and the greatest scientific mind the world has ever seen, Dr Ivo ‘Eggman’ Robotnik, found his grandfather’s journal, and used it to track down and raid the G.U.N base that held “Project Shadow”, intending to use it for his latest and greatest evil scheme. Using a Chaos Emerald, Eggman awoke Shadow, who, seemingly grateful for his release, promised Eggman one wish of his choosing, and he wished to conquer and rule the world. Shadow told Eggman to assist him in acquiring the Chaos Emeralds and then meet him on the Space Colony ARK, and from there his wish would be granted.

But upon obtaining all 7 Chaos Emeralds and inserting them in the Central Control Room, a program was triggered that would cause the ARK to crash into Earth, eliminating all life on Earth. A message from Gerald was played to the world, one that Shadow had already witnessed, been molded and twisted by, hatred towards humanity for taking away the one thing that gave their lives meaning, and they both promised the world revenge. But as Shadow awaited both his and the planet’s imminent destruction, Amy Rose would speak to him, providing him a perspective of humanity not tainted like his or Gerald’s were, and thanks to her, he remembered Maria’s true wish, to protect humanity, and give every life on Earth the chance to be happy.

He would go on to team up with his rival, Sonic the Hedgehog, to defeat the Biolizard and return the descending Space Colony ARK back into orbit, sacrificing himself in the process, fulfilling Maria’s wish, dying a hero…

Buuuut he was too popular to be killed off forever, and so he survived his fall from space, but lost his memories in the process. Afterwards he’d go on a journey of his own, trying to rediscover who he was, while simultaneously helping out friends new and old like E-123 Omega and Rouge the Bat against the mighty Neo Metal Sonic. Eventually, the Black Comet returned, and Black Doom was here to obtain his side of the bargain he made with Gerald all those years ago, and after a game with far too many endings, Shadow defeated the Black Arms and made the choice to leave his past behind him, moving forward without chains attached to him, or anyone whispering in his ears trying to manipulate him.

He’d make amends with G.U.N, even joining them and soon found himself fighting alongside Sonic and friends against the cunning Mephiles, not succumbing to his manipulation and continuing to fight on like he always had and always will. Black Doom returned during the events of Generations, causing Shadow to cross paths with his past once more, but just like before, he overcame Black Doom even at his most powerful, and made heart-wrenching decision to once again leave his past behind him even as they were fading away in front of him. Nowadays he continues to live his life, protecting Earth when he can, and fighting with Maria’s wish in his heart.

Skill, Experience, and Intellect:

Mewtwo:

Mewtwo has been alive for well over 20 years and has spent that time fighting and surviving in the wild while escaping the clutches of Team Rocket. During this time Mewtwo had fought all manner of incredibly powerful Pokémon such as Genesect, Ash’s Pikachu, Deoxys, and even Mew. So it definitely earned its title of the “Strongest Pokémon Alive”. Mewtwo has become so adept at fighting that he can even adapt to any and all attacks on the fly.

In the manga and games Mewtwo similarly has years of battle experience as they had traveled across the globe fighting and protecting Pokémon. Additionally, it is also stated that Mewtwo is potentially the most savage Pokémon out there, and trains itself to conserve energy by remaining motionless in battle.

Mewtwo is also smart enough to build a perfect cloning facility from scratch. These clones weren’t just copies, but they were all improvements on the original versions.

It is even stated that Mega Mewtwo Y's intelligence has grown vastly superior to base so these feats would have been long surpassed.

Shadow:

Shadow was created over 50 years ago, however most of that time was spent in stasis waiting for Dr Eggman to release him. However, this doesn’t mean he's lacking in experience as ever since Shadow had been free he’s fought all manner of foes. From simple threats like Dr. Starline, the Biolizard, and several of Eggman's mechs, to threats to the greater multiverse such as Neo Devil Doom, Solaris, and Super Neo Metal Sonic.

In regard to skill, as a member of GUN, he should have hand-to-hand training; he has an extensive knowledge of firearms, swords, and his chaos powers. Furthermore, he constantly faces off against the likes of Sonic, Martial Arts masters like Knuckles, Eggman, Black Doom, and extradimensional threats like Solaris. Hell, Sonic himself states Shadow is his biggest rival. Sonic himself knows a few martial arts (as well as having his skill complimented by masters that have a millennia of experience).

And most impressively, Emerl's mastery of weapons and hand-to-hand caused Gerald’s computer to crash with the sheer data alone. Guess who’s equal to him?

Oh, and apparently he has an IQ of fucking 200. (Yes, this is real)

Equipment:

Mewtwo

Badass Cloak:

Piccolo Jr. Jr. over here just aura farming like their life depends on it.

Poké Balls:

During the first movie they created custom Poké balls that can steal already caught Pokémon, including those within Poké balls already. These Poké balls can be summoned from thin air, and Mewtwo is incredibly adept at controlling a swarm of them at a time. Seemingly, these can catch inanimate objects as well as they caught Ash’s Pokémon & their Pokéballs.

M2 Bind (non applicable but cool):

Designed by Team Rocket during his training, it is meant to suppress, yet focus Mewtwo’s power. This suit, while beneficial to Mewtwo, was ultimately destroyed alongside the Team Rocket Base that Giovanni kept him within.

Spoon:

The Spoon is a psychics greatest weapon and with it Mewtwo can use it in combat by morphing it into all
different shapes and utensils (literally), and he can even split them in 2 and fight like Darth Maul

In-Game held Items:

These are items Mewtwo can be caught with or he has had in the past:

Berserk Gene: Raises Mewtwo's attack by 2 stages when it enters battle, but also confuses it

Bright Powder:  Reduces the accuracy of attacks targeting Mewtwo by 10%.

Custap Berry:  If Mewtwo is below ¼ health, it will consume the berry and be able to attack first once.

Expert Belt:  Boosts Mewtwo's super effective attacks dealt damage by 20%.

Heavy Duty Boots:  Makes Mewtwo unaffected by entry hazards such as spikes.

Havoc Robe: A Mewtwo exclusive item that is basically just pressure, forcing foes to exert twice the energy.

King’s Rock:  Every attacking move Mewtwo uses has a 10% chance to flinch. Lowers foes accuracy by 20%

Leftovers:  Restores 1/16th of Mewtwo’s health every turn.

Life Orb:  Boosts his damage by 30%.

Lum Berry:  Cures any negative effects.

Mega Mewtwonite X and Y: in game are required to mega evolve, however in the movie, and Legends ZA these are not needed for Mewtwo. We will get more into these in the forms section.

Twisted Spoon:  Boosts Mewtwo's psychic abilities by 20%.

Looplet/ Emeras (Debatable):

Looplet | Pokémon Wiki | Fandom

These are items found in Super Mystery Dungeon, they can hold up to 4 emeras within. Emeras grant a multitude of passive effects. Even without a Looplet, Mewtwo can use them on itself, so they’re def viable for this fight. It should be noted however that these dissipate when exiting a dungeon, so it is debatable if they’d be permanent or on a timer. But if you see them as usable then:

Alliance Expert: Increases the accuracy of Mewtwo’s moves in an Alliance, which are basically team attacks. Raises Attack when used

Anchor: Prevents Mewtwo from being blown or warped away. Raises maximum HP when used.

Barrage Guard: Reduces the amount of damage Mewtwo takes from attacks that happen in quick succession. Raises Special Defense when used.

Berry Power: Sometimes prevents Mewtwo’s stats from being lowered and bad status effects from being inflicted. The effect of this emera is increased when there are a variety of berries in possession. Raises Defense when used.

Better Odds: Makes Mewtwo’s moves never miss their target, as well as makes it so they always deal critical hits for every even move it uses. Raises Attack when used.

Big Recovery: Increases the amount of HP Mewtwo recovers when it uses an item, move, or Ability to restore HP. Raises maximum HP when used.

Clutch Performer: Makes it easier for Mewtwo to dodge attacks when it’s in a pinch. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Speed when used.

Comeback: Increases the accuracy of Mewtwo’s next move when it misses a move. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Special Attack when used.

Distance Dodge: Makes it easier for Mewtwo to dodge attacks from far away. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Speed when used.

Dizzying Payback: Sometimes makes Mewtwo’s opponent confused when they attack it. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Special Defense when used.

Dizzying Stare: Sometimes makes Mewtwo’s opponent confused when it attacks them. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Special Defense when used.

Effect Boost: Increases the chances of additional effects from Mewtwo’s moves being triggered. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Special Defense when used.

Explosion Guard: Reduces the amount of damage Mewtwo takes from explosions. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Defense when used.

Go for Broke: Raises all of Mewtwo’s stats significantly, though it can’t be revived with items anymore. Raises maximum HP when used.

Guard Boost: Reduces the amount of damage Mewtwo takes. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Defense when used.

Intimidator: Sometimes makes Mewtwo’s opponent fail at performing their action. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Speed when used.

Lucky Charm: Gets removed instead of other Emeras when one is forced to be taken off. Raises maximum HP when used.

Lullaby: Sometimes makes Mewtwo’s opponent go to sleep when it attacks them. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Attack when used.

Misfortune Mirror: Increases Mewtwo’s evasion until it performs an action again when it misses a move. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Speed when used.

Natural Recovery: Speeds up Mewtwo’s natural HP recovery. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises maximum HP when used.

Paralysis Guard: Prevents Mewtwo from being inflicted with paralysis. Raises maximum HP when used.

Payback: Sometimes brings Mewtwo’s opponent down to the brink of fainting when they attack it. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Special Defense when used.

Petrify Power: Sometimes makes Mewtwo’s opponent petrified when it attacks them. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked or when many sticky items are in possession. Raises maximum HP when used.

Poison Guard: Prevents Mewtwo from being inflicted with poison. Raises maximum HP when used.

Power Boost X: Raises the power of Mewtwo’s moves, as well as increases its accuracy when set with Power Boost Y. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Attack when used.

Super Critical: Increases the chances of a critical hit happening for super effective moves. The effect of this emera is increased when multiple of the same ones are stacked. Raises Attack when used.

Tight Grip: Prevents items Mewtwo is holding from being dropped or stolen. Raises Speed when used.

Type Bulldozer: Prevents Mewtwo’s moves from reducing in power against opponents that resist or are immune to them. Raises Attack when used.

Toughness: Makes Mewtwo endure an opponent’s attack and be at the brink of fainting, though this emera will go away. Raises Special Defense when used

Shadow Synergy Stone (Debatable):

Mewtwo and Shadow can do a fusion dance or something. An item exclusive to Pokken, Mewtwo in an act of heroism saved a young girl from its power, but in the process, became corrupted itself. More on this corrupted form later.

Shadow:

Shadow’s fit:

Inhibitor Rings:

Designed by Maria and created by Gerald. Besides looking stylish, they limit his output of chaos energy, however he can remove them at any time to massively amplify his power.

Gravity Bands:

In Sonic Riders, these allow Shadow mid-air flight by manipulating his own gravity. The gravity bands are so strong that they can even ignore the gravitational pull of the Black Holes the cast use for boosts.

Rocket Skates:

“They're Air Shoes”

Shadow’s iconic footwear, they grant him Pseudo-flight, and of course assist with his super-speed by letting him skate across the ground.

Advantage S Skates:

Really cool roller skates that can use all of the drifting abilities from the Riders games. This is how all of those abilities are combat applicable for Shadow without him needing to be in his lame as hell car.

Trails:

Trails come from Sonic Speed Simulator and grant those who equip them a couple of effects whenever they take a step, a lot of them are similar so we’ll break down the most important ones:

Rings: Ice Breaker Trail which gives an additional 202,500 Rings per Ring collected.

XP collected through Chaos Orbs: Emerald Energy Trail which gives an additional 500,000 XP per Chaos Orb collected.

Buffing your damage: The Ice Breaker Trail lets you deal an additional 21,600 Damage.

Shadows Vehicles:

Dark Rider:

Shadow’s iconic motorcycle from his own game, equipped with, well, guns! He can also pilot pretty much any military-grade vehicle he finds too.

Black Shot:

Shadow’s signature Extreme Gear, granting Shadow semi-flight whilst on it, capable of creating small tornadoes.

Dark Reaper:

Shadow’s car from the Sonic Racing games. It was designed specifically for him, and is infinitely less cool than the Bike or Extreme Gear.

Guns/Weapons:

19 Years Ago, Shadow The Hedgehog Swore And Used A Gun And It's Better Than You Remember - Kotaku

Firearms:

Egg Gun, Egg Vacuum, Flash Shot ,Gatling Gun, Heavy Machine Gun, Heavy Shot, Light Shot, Pistol, Ring Shot, Semi-Auto Rifle, Sub-Machine Gun, Shadow Rifle, Vacuum Pod

Cannons and explosive weapons:

4-Shot RPG, 8-Shot RPG, Bazooka, Big Barrel, Black Barrel, Egg Bazooka, Grenade Launcher, Tank Cannon, Heal Cannon, RPG

Laser weapons:

Big Worm Shooter, Laser Rifle, Refractor, Satellite Gun, Splitter, Omochao Gun, Wide Worm Shooter

Melee Weapons:

Black Sword, Dark Hammer, Egg Spear, Survival Knife, Samurai Blade

Oh and theoretically Shadow should be able to just turn his hand into any of these himself like a transformer.

Sonic Power-Ups:

Shadow, naturally, can pick-up in-game power-ups, as well as carry some on-hand:

Bubble Shield: The bubble shield allows Shadow to breathe underwater indefinitely. Along with that, it gives him the ability to bounce off of the ground like a ball.

Fire: A power-up that either lets Shadow shoot out a fireball that follows his enemies or a fiery shield that protects him, though the shield lasts for a limited time.

Flame Ring: Equipping it allows Shadow to perform a fiery somersault that can break through metal.

Gold Shield: A golden variant of the Shield. In addition to keeping Shadow from taking damage once, it also allows him to perform the Blast Attack.

High Speed: Generates a sudden burst of speed.

Ice: A power-up that either shoots an icy projectile that homes in on his foes or leaves an ice cube behind him, both of which freezes his enemies.

Illusion: Leaves an illusory orb or shoots one out which follows his enemies and messes up the foe’s vision

Invincibility: Does what it says on the tin for a limited time.

Lightning: A power-up that can be used to shock enemies in an instant, shoot a homing electric ball or leave a decoy ring behind him to paralysis his enemies. Can also perform similar techniques with the Storm Cloud ability.

Mine: Either drops an explosive mine or shoots a mine that tracks down the enemy.

Power Sneakers: Let’s Shadow run faster than normal temporarily.

Shield: The shield is a common power-up throughout the Sonic series, that creates a semi-permanent energy shield around the user to protect them from a variety of attacks. However, whenever this shield is hit with any kind of attack, it completely dissipates, leaving the user vulnerable again. There’s also elemental variants..

Thunder Shield: The thunder shield gives Shadow protection against electrical based attacks. Along with this ability, he can attract metal objects (usually rings) towards him, and he gains an extra jump with this equipped.

Wind: A power-up that shoots or leaves a tornado behind Shadow in which shoots the enemy in the air.

Sonic Forces Speed-Battle Power-Ups:

Each character in the game gets 3 power-ups, depending on the skin these will change too.

Something important to mention is that when Shadow goes super in the game he explicitly gains an immunity to every item here. Keep that in mind as you read through the list:

Air Dash: Shadow throws rings in the air and uses them to boost his speed for a few seconds

Charm Trap: The user throws a box that if it touches another person locks all of their items unless they pay a fine of 35 rings

Chaos Boost: Shadow speeds up astronomically and is covered in a red aura that blows up anyone who touches them

Chaos Cord: Shadow sings and locks enemy item-box abilities shortly.

Chaos Flame Sword: Shadow grabs a flaming Sword which releases lava if it hits someone.

Deadly Spears: Shadow can cause spears to appear from under other combatants who’re somewhat close to him on the track.

Demon Blade: Shadow spawns a magical blade that tracks its target when thrown and is unavoidable

Doom Blast: Exact same effect as in canon

Doom Spears: Exact same effect as in canon

Doom Wing: Exact same effect as in canon

Drac-O’-Lantern: An explosive Pumpkin that passes through obstacles.

Electric Rush: Shadow tosses a ball of electricity that raises his own speed and rips items from the hands of other racers and gives them to him

Electro Boost:  A small zap that causes foes to drop items.

Explosive Mine: Shadows tosses some mines on the field, but they hurt him too… for some reason

Highway Robbery: Shadow speeds up briefly and gains rings passively for a few seconds

     Lightning: Shock foes.

Lucky Horseshoe: Shadow pulls out a horseshoe that hits anyone and when it does it steals rings from them and slows them down substantially

     Power Sneakers: Brief speed boost.

Storm Cloud: Summons bad weather to remove enemy items.

Ultimate Waveform: Shadow throws 12 notes ahead of him which all give speed boost if he touches them, plus he becomes completely invincible for a few seconds if he touches a note

Wind Boost: A blast of wind that jets the user forwards and anyone he touches takes damage as shadow gains rings

Wind Turbine: A massive fan appears near shadow and forces anyone around him away

Super forms are immune to any and all items in the game aside each other, so here's all of the abilities Shadow is immune to that I haven't mentioned yet:

     All powers of Excalibur

All effects of the Phantom ruby in just in this game this includes full reality warping, dura neg, and mind manip

     Blindness and smokescreens

     Curses

     Damage nullification

His speed being drained away passively

His Speed being stolen from him in an instant

     Illusions

     Item stealing/ hammerspace manipulation

     Mind manipulation

     Paralysis

     Poison

     Power nullification

     Rings being stolen from him

     Sealing

     Silver’s Psychokinesis

     Stat manipulation

     Time stop,

Support:

Chao/Fast Friends:

In the game Sonic Speed Simulator there are “friends” which support the main cast and give them different types of buffs and minor extra abilities. These all hang out in the main cast's inventories so bringing them into a fight shouldn’t be classed as outside help. These are also effectively the exact same as Wisps, so if you give those to shadow there shouldn't be a reason not to give these as well. Also all of these individually raise your Ring count and damage by 150%, but it’d be redundant to say it for each and every one, so keep that in mind.

Chao:

Cheese the Chao, Drummer Cheese : Raises luck by 12%

Chocola Chao: Raises Stanima by 20%

Fast Friends:

Black Doom: Gives you the Magnet ability which absorbs all items around you.

Froggy: Raises luck by 12% and allows you to breathe underwater for an extra minute

Holiday Robots: This is its own subsection cuz its a lot

Holiday Robot Amy & Tails: Raises luck by 12% each

Holiday Robot Blaze and Sonic: Raises Stamina by 12%

Holiday Robot Knuckles, Shadow: Gives you the Magnet ability (draws in items and rings from a distance)

     Toy Robots:

Toy Robot Amy, Espio, Shadow, Silver: Raises Stamina by 12%

Toy Robot Cream, Jet, Sonic: raises luck by 12%

Toy Robot Knuckles, Metal Sonic: Gives you the Magnet ability

Toy Robot Kunoichi Amy: Raises Stamina by 20%

Toy Robot Rouge: Raises Stamina by 15%

Toy Robot Summer Amy: Raises Luck by 20% and allows you to breathe underwater for 50 extra seconds

Toy Robot Summer Jet: Raises your stamina by 15% and allows you to breathe underwater for 50 extra seconds

Toy Robot Summer Shadow: Gives you the Magnet ability and allows you to breathe underwater for 50 extra seconds

Toy Robot Summer Sonic: Allows you to breathe underwater for 50 extra seconds

Toy Robot Super Sonic: Raises stamina by 18%

Toy Robot T.H. Knuckles, and Tails: Gives you the Magnet ability

Wisps:

Actually all characters have access to Wisps in the racing games, and Shadow even uses several Wisps in Episode Shadow, so we're going to count it as equipment for Shadow:

Black Wisp: Ever played Mario Kart? Bob-Ombs, basically.

Blue Wisp: Basically a mine that stuns foes.

Cyan Wisp: Turns Shadow into damaging light. In some games Cyan can also steal items when they hit the opponent

Crimson Wisp:  Allows Shadow to turn into a red flying creature that homes in on, and rams into targets.

     Gray Wisp: Summons stone pillars.

     Indigo Wisp: Draws items in.

Ivory Wisp: Lightning powers, including stuns.

Jade Wisp: Makes Shadow invincible to attacks for a few seconds, as well as intangible, to such an extent that even Metal Sonic, who can interact with non-physical beings, phased through Sonic when he was empowered by it.

     Magenta Wisp: Blinds foes.

Nega Wisp: Slows foes and sucks in items.

Orange Wisp: Allows Shadow to fire rockets or transmute himself into one.

Pink Wisp: Shadow can summon pink spikes.

Red Wisp: Leaves a flaming trail behind Shadow.

White Wisp - Increase boost frequency.

Yellow Wisp:  Makes Shadow invincible as he boosts into enemies.

Team Sonic Racing items:

Black Bomb: Throw a bomb ahead and guess what? It explodes when an opponent hits it.

Blue Cube: Get hit by a random wall idiot.

Crimson Eagle: The Orange rocket but it locks in on opponents. Fully upgraded does the same thing

Cyan Laser: Locks onto an opponent in range and blasts them with a laser after a short time.

Rings:

The most standard and recognisable Sonic collectable! Their main purpose from a gameplay stand-point is to keep the player alive, but for Super Shadow, it’s a time limit, the more rings Shadow has, the longer he can stay in super.

But surely they don’t matter in lore? Well:

Silver uses them to recharge his power.

Plenty of manuals and characters state they are necessary.

They shielded Sonic in Prime, as well as in Frontiers (The End's attacks would’vel killed him without rings).

If games like Unleashed and Sonic Speed Simulator are anything to go by, characters seem to be able to carry a nigh unlimited amount of them.

Chaos Emeralds:

You know ‘em, you loathe collecting them - the Chaos Emeralds! Famously stated to be able to turn thoughts into power, these miracle gems have a wide variety of abilities, outside of the obvious we’ll get to later. They have been stated dozens of times to have INFINITE power.

They’re often associated with positive and negative energy (good guys are positive, bad guys harness negative), and as discussed later can be recharged with said energy. They can be recalled to the user. Here’s a list of the shocking amount of abilities they grant:

Wish Granting (Debatable) - They are described as gems made of a super material that can grant wishes, although this isn’t always literal from a combat perspective.

Healing/Resurrection - Chaos Emeralds have been shown multiple times to have abilities that heal wounds, and restore stamina, and even revive other people. (yes, I'm talking about THAT scene from THAT game).

Growth - The emeralds can grow plants.

Weather manipulation - the emeralds were able to nullify a storm.

Sealing - Silver would have been able to seal Blaze and Iblis in another dimension.

He didn't do it because, well, he's Silver and never does anything, but he could’ve.

Reality Restoration - The power of the emeralds was what returned reality to normal after the events of Time Eater.

Energy absorption - On their own, the emeralds were able to absorb the power of Eggman's mind-controlling ray. This recharged them and allowed Sonic to reach his super state.

Conceptual and Dream Manipulation - I know what you're thinking. Sonic the Hedgehog? The fast-running smack talking rodent manipulating concepts?

Well...yes.

In Sonic Shuffle, Lumina reveals that the protagonists are in Maginaryworld, a world that brings together the dreams of people in all dimensions. Dreams can range from desires and transformations to refuges from sadness, and give rise to various dream worlds such as the Emerald Coast, the Firebird, the Wilderness Zone, and the Riot Train.

However, the Void generates anomalies that threaten to destroy Maginaryworld.

The Void and Lumina are part of Illumina, being complementary representations of dreams.

The Void embodies the darkness, emptiness, and negative emotions necessary for dreams to exist, while Lumina represents light and hope.

You might wonder, how does this affect the Chaos Emeralds?

Well, the emeralds are directly called the substances of dreams. This means that beings like Void, who could destroy the Magisterial World, exist thanks to this power.

And if that doesn't convince you, the power of the emeralds is greater than that of Solaris, which was capable of destroying the entire Sonic cosmology. Which obviously includes MaginaryWorld.

Information, Data and Soul Manipulation (Debatable) - The ancients used Chaos Emeralds to empower cyberspace. This being a separate, digital dimension, it contains countless amounts of information, and even can materialise it.

Cyberspace even stores information about the ancestors' essence, including concepts like their hopes and dreams (more evidence of the emeralds' conceptual manipulation), even their souls.

When a character enters cyberspace, his memories materialize in the place and alter it.

Law/Fate Manipulation (Debatable) - Super Sonic defeated The End, despite it being attuned to ruling fate on everything that exists across the universe, with its defeat supposedly transcending law and time, Sonic himself even stated that he would have to “break the cause and effect of fate” to defeat it (all this according to the JP script) It is debatable if these are all literal or figure of speech, but The End seemed to be very blatant in its boasts of shaping the universe and everything within.

Resistance to Memory Manipulation - Holding onto 1 Chaos Emerald prevented characters from having their memories altered by the Egg Field, though overtime as the Phantom Ruby became more charged it began to bypass this resistance, but holding all 7 Emeralds at once seemingly leaves the wielder completely unaffected by the Egg Field’s and Lightman’s Memory Manipulation.

Totally Mogs every power source in the DC universe

Shadow’s Super Form and Resistances with the Emeralds are covered later.

Once again if you read his moveset, you know he can use dark and ghost attacks. Which it can use to emit pulses, create blasts, produce explosions, or form vortexes, Mewtwo can even engulf its body in negative energy when performing physical strikes to make them more powerful.

     Afterimage Creation:

Mewtwo can move so fast it summons afterimages of himself to fight however he pleases. If destroyed, they can still deal damage as psychic orbs. Similarly Double Team in the anime also famously does a similar thing.

     Object Creation:

There’s no better way to describe it, Mewtwo can just…create objects? The limit is unknown, but it could be an argument as to how he gets his more ‘non-standard’ stuff.

     Healing Factor:

Alongside moves like Recover and Rest, Mewtwo has been shown healing off absurd wounds such as his heart being stabbed through, and can even heal others.

     Immortality:

Mew is apparently immortal, and thus, so should Mewtwo. This would explain why it can survive without oxygen for a while, and never seems to age.

Mental Manipulation:

     Sleep Inducement:

In Detective Pikachu Mewtwo can put targets to sleep. It should be noted this isn’t instant. Naturally he can end this whenever he feels like nap time’s over.

     Telepathy:

Naturally, as a psychic type Mewtwo can communicate with others using its mind, no matter the distance.

It can target specific people as well, even from miles away. He can even do this whilst unconscious. It can even show its own memories to others.

     Mind Control:

Mewtwo has shown to be efficient in controlling the minds of, and speaking through people. He can release them from this control as well.

     Memory Erasure:

As seen above, Mewtwo can cleanse memories for upwards of weeks. He can even do this to armies of people and Pokémon. Thankfully, he can reverse this.

     Mind Reading:

Mewtwo can scan entire lifetimes of thoughts and memories in seconds.

Pocket Dimension Creation:

Starting on the very important abilities we have, Portals of all kinds, Mewtwo can send others into other dimensions with voids, so far away they’ll never return. Of course, he can enter this space himself, and bring out whatever’s trapped within.

Petrification:

Pokémon: 10 Times Ash Put His Own Life On The Line

In the first movie Mewtwo famously kills ash by Petrifying him. This is later counteracted by the tears of all nearby Pokémon as Amber describes tears being “life itself” This would imply that the counter to this petrification is life energy or what later becomes Aura in Pokémon as both are described the exact same way.

This ability to petrify is expanded upon in Pokémon Adventures as during their short fight Darkrai and Mewtwo’s battle petrified the trainers around them, There is an argument that both times were due to the power of other legendaries (Mew and Darkrai) but it has been used by enough times to most likely be a valid part of their arsenal.

Gravity Manipulation/ Black Holes:

Mewtwo, alongside similar Psychic Types like Gardevoir can condense gravity so much that they form black holes, Mewtwo has only shown this in Spin off’s, but other psychic types have shown it in the main series on multiple occasions so it's almost definitely applicable.

Power Nullification:

For context, Mewtwo wishes to prove his clones are superior even without their powers, so he…well you see the quote. Afterwards the fight becomes a physical brawl afterwards. This also extends to cancelling status effects.

Mewtwo Cancer Berserk Genes:

This is the DNA of Mewtwo. In-game, when Mewtwo enters battle holding the titular item, it confuses itself and raises its attack by two stages.

From a lore perspective, this obviously does not apply, and in Detective Pikachu it is simply a drug Pokémon can take.

In the Manga however, Mewtwo can sense anyone who also has these cells within them, and vice versa. However despite having this ability Mewtwo cannot pinpoint an exact location until nearby. A downside to this is that not only does Mewtwo get this tracking ability, but so does whoever has his cells within them.

If someone gets Mewtwo’s cells within them, it will slowly cause cellular decay. However, this is only if Mewtwo himself is in pain as well, as both of your emotions and bodies become linked.

Soul Manipulation:

For some reason, when writing Detective Pikachu. They decided Mewtwo should be able to transfer souls into other bodies. However, this can only be done if the being the soul is being put into is in a crazed state or willing to let it happen, regardless, he can still remove souls. A work around is the fact the berserk gene is a drug made of Mewtwo’s DNA that explicitly causes whatever it’s used on to go berserk.

Outside of Detective Pikachu several characters have shown able to interact with the soul such as Ash and Riley’s Lucario as Aura is effectively just life energy. Mewtwo also has moves like Aura Sphere and Dark Pulse which are directly stated to be attacks formed from Spiritual energy.

Resurrection:

Mewtwo Jesus Renaissance Wall Art | Threadfox

As mentioned earlier, one of Mewtwo's most frequently used abilities is recover, standard health recovery…right? Well…

During its creation, it actually died, and brought itself back to life thanks to recover…somehow.

Seemingly during the video all that can be inferred is that Mewtwo’s heart had stopped as they began flatlining, but recover resuscitated it.

Debatable Abilities:

Precognition/ Future sight:

Alakazam is stated to be able to use every edge of psychic abilities from Pearl’s Pokédex entry onwards. Because of this, Alakazam foresees the future with his psychic abilities (Let’s Go Pikachu! And Eevee!, Ultra Moon). Mewtwo is considered the strongest of AT LEAST the Generation 1 Pokémon, and furthermore considered the strongest Psychic-type Pokémon. He has defeated Alakazam in direct combat (Mewtwo Strikes Back!) with psychic abilities placing him above Alakazam and giving Mewtwo Precognition.

Psychic Pokémon such as Gardevoir, and Xatu are commonly stated and shown to directly see the future from their Pokédex entries, manga, and Mystery Dungeon

Sabrina and Olympia in the anime and games are stated to have basic precognition simply from practicing their psychic abilities

Resistances:

Physical Attacks - Psychic types resist physical attacks.

Severe Heat - He’s walked right through flames before.

Extreme Cold - Can fly out of orbit.

Paralysis - See Paralysis Guard Emera.

Poison - See Poison Guard Emera.

Sleep Inducement - See Sleep Guard Emera.

Oxygen - Can survive in space (but is very fatigued, and gets knocked out when entering and exiting orbit).

     BFR - See Anchor Emera.

Petrification (Debatable) - Was unaffected by his clash with Darkrai that petrified normal humans. However the fact that it was Mewtwo’s own power might make this invalid

Power Sealing/Nullification (Questionable) - Shrugged off a machine designed to seal its powers off, although Giovanni admitted afterwards that tech has its limits.

Willpower Drainage/ Mind Control - When Giovanni's tech harnessed Mewtwo's energy, it could not harness Mewtwo's willpower.

Shadow:

Base abilities:

Spin Dash: Shadow curls into a ball and rolls on the floor to build speed by spinning, and launches himself at enemies. Shadow actually has his own variant of this, called…"Dark Spin Dash," of course…

Spin Jump: It is used to attack enemies in the middle of the jump

Homing Attack: A jump that automatically locks onto an enemy to knock them out of the air. He can combine it with his teleportation abilities, which we talk about below.

Light Speed Dash: Shadow can travel around a ring track, and as the name suggests, he travels at the speed of light. He can even use this technique in the air.

Light Speed Attack: By possessing the Ancient Light upgrade, Shadow charges the spin dash while light is drawn to him and begins to envelop him. With this, he is able to attack at ,well, the speed of light, destroying any enemies that he barrels towards in a heartbeat.

Black Tornado: Shadow uses the Spin Dash to circle around the enemy in the air at high speed, leaving a yellow glow behind. This trace creates a whirlwind effect that creates a dark cyclone around the opponent.

Shadow Boost: Shadow is surrounded by an aura that allows him to run at full speed, passing through all the enemies around him.

Stomp: It’s a ground pound that causes a shockwave

Immortality: Being the ultimate life form, Shadow's body never ages.

Danger Sense: This is an ability Sonic has that allows him to sense danger around him via his Quills tingling. Shadow and Sonic are both stated to have the same abilities in older games so Shadow likely has access to this as well.

Chaos abilities:

Chaos Spear: This is a Projectile which utilizes chaos energy. It can also cause paralysis. It can also bypass or shatter barriers. It can also be used as a melee attack, as he can enhance this as Chaos Lance. Chaos Lance can drain Chaos Energy itself.

Chaos Boost: Shadow's entire body is surrounded by a red/yellow aura composed of Chaos Energy, similar to Dark Shadow's. In this state, use Chaos techniques such as Chaos Snap, Chaos Lance, and Chaos Blast (Speaking of…)

Chaos Blast: Shadow’s ultimate offensive attack. Generates a large wave of red negative energy that eliminates all nearby enemies.

Teleportation: Shadow is able to teleport short distances.  He’s able to perform this even without a Chaos Emerald. The furthest Shadow has ever teleported without an emerald is escaping prison island before it blew up.

     Chaos Control:

While yes this technically should fall under the ‘Chaos Emeralds’ section, this is such a Shadow-iconic ability it deserved its own segment. Allowing Shadow the ability to warp space and time,

He can even perform Chaos Control without an emerald for about 5 seconds, granting him the ability to teleport great distances, Shadow can even use it on himself and others to warp them away from or towards different points in space, including across dimensions.

Furthermore, Emerl can triplicate himself using the technique. Plus, Shadow can create small orbs that can induce confusion on opponents or trap them for a short amount of time. Finally, Shadow creates spatial distortions through just his attacks with the technique.

Of course, it also allows Shadow to slow down time itself, making the foe free to attack. Hell, he can straight up freeze time too, in which he can choose if others can move as well. Time travel is also possible, but it requires another person, and Shadow has no way of cloning himself. This time stop is able to, somehow, stop time in a dimension that is void of time (White Space qualifies for Type 1 Beyond-Dimensional Existence) which means he’s bypassing an immunity as there should be no time to manipulate.

Additionally, Chaos Control can seal opponents, even spiritual ones, in another object or person, or even a dimension, and the hedgehogs themselves do this twice in Sonic 06. The Ancients utilized the Emeralds to forge Cyber Space, harnessing its cyber energy to influence, trap or encode souls. Tikal even sealed Chaos within the Master Emerald.

Sonic Battle Abilities:

As a playable character in Sonic Battle, Shadow has his fair share of abilities he can bring to this fight:

Chaos Burst - Shadow spins around and uses Chaos Control to hide in a distorted area of space. When he emerges from the distorted space, he briefly creates a small white and purple bubble around himself that damages any opponent who makes contact with it. He also distorts the space around both of his fists, creating small violet and purple spheres around each fist, which repel enemies.

Chaos Nightmare - Shadow briefly ascends into the air, creating a purple aura of distorted space-time that damages enemies.

Chaos Magic - Shadow snaps his fingers, creating an area of spatial distortion in front of the user in the form of a spatial rift that knocks opponents into the air.

Chaos Upper - Shadow knocks a foe into the air

Ichikoro (Debatable) - Upon storing enough energy, Shadow can one-shot any foe. This is of course a gameplay mechanic and is pretty much a no limits fallacy.

Roaming Chaos - Shadow creates a distorted space in the shape of a purple and white orb, before launching it in a horizontal motion. The distorted space orb will float in the air and attempt to return to the user until an opponent hits it, knocking them into the air, or until Shadow performs the technique again.

Shadow Heal - He can heal minor wounds, however this uses chaos energy.

Shadow Guard - Shadow crosses both arms to defend against incoming attacks while simultaneously using Chaos Control to increase the power of his guard. This forms a small spherical field that protects him from blows.

Shadow Teleport - Just call it Chaos Control???

Precognition (Debatable):

Shadow has frequently shown the ability to sense events right before they happen, while it’s unlikely this is an intended ability, it does tend to happen a lot. There are also instances of Sonic describing his quills tingling before something bad happens. Although, a lot of instances of “precog” could also be explained by Shadow simply being aware of his surroundings and being intelligent enough to spot traps and potential danger.

Resistances:

Extreme Cold - Can break free from being frozen.

Paralysis - Resists the gas emitted from the Black Comet that not even Sonic could resist.

Sleep Manipulation - The gas from the Black Comet also puts people to sleep, yet Shadow is unaffected by this.

Poison Manipulation - Unaffected by many areas with toxins and other lethal substances.

Acid Manipulation - Doesn’t sustain any side effects from poisonous frogs’ wilting acid rain.

Sealing - Only through Shadow’s shadow was Mephiles able to break out of the Sceptre of Darkness.

Memory Manipulation - This is an unconventional resistance as, even if Shadow does get his memories wiped, Gerald installed within him pre-programmed knowledge prior to his birth, which he can parse through and apply to his current situation. A good example of this is after he is awakened in Heroes without his memories, he’s still able to fight against E-123 Omega despite Omega being one of Eggman's best robots at the time.

Psychokinesis (uh-oh) - Breaks free of Silvers hold on him. Could just be an 06 thing don’t worry it’s not that important.

Oxygen - Can survive in space.

Diseases - The whole point of the character is to survive stuff like say, cancer.

Mind Control - Shadow was able to resist the effects of Black Doom controlling his mind. (This seems to be based on Shadow’s willpower, so it should be effective against all forms of mind control. This is, however, speculative).  Regardless, the emeralds certainly can.

Biological Manipulation - Again, due to being the ultimate life form, Shadow's body was initially immune to the Metal Virus. However, thanks to Sega giving him a Vegeta attitude, Shadow continued to fight the zom-bots, causing the virus to adapt to his body and infect him.

     BFR - See Chaos Control.

Transmutation - Shadow can resist the effects of both the Blue Cube Wisp and the Indigo Asteroid Wisp. When Sonic entered his super form, the effects of the metal virus were immediately cured.

Emerald theft (Debatable, see BTV)- In Sonic Forces Speed Battle, the Chaos Emeralds allow the hedgehogs to transform, and in this game Metal sonic has an ability called Steal. Steal ability can steal every single item in the game except for the chaos/sol emeralds, even when they’re just chilling in your inventory.

Mind you, Metal is able to steal every other invincibility item such as the Shield, Invincibility power up, Phantom Ruby, and Caliburn. Only the chaos emeralds and Sol emeralds have this immunity to being removed from your inventory for some reason.

Anti-matter - Although part of the alternate endings for Shadow's game, this version should still feature all of the main Shadow's powers and abilities.

Radiation - Resisted particle emission from Blue Falcon

Sealing through BFR- Sonic was able to escape from cyberspace. This wasn't done through any special ability, but through his own power.

Power Drainage - Although the Emeralds can be drained, they can be recharged with positive energy (therapy works kids). Theoretically Shadow should be able to recharge them with negative energy too. Blaze reinforces this with the Sol Emeralds.

Power Nullification - Doom Zone removes the use of Chaos Control…yet Shadow uses it right next to Doom (It’s even disabled during the lead up to the boss fight).

Death Manipulation - Super forms can resist The Eyes Of Solaris which kills the base cast instantly regardless of if they have Rings or not.

Possession, Mind Manipulation, and Soul Manipulation - Shadow was completely immune to Ifrit's control, which can even mess with souls.

Possession, Mind Manipulation, and Soul Manipulation... AGAIN- After gaining all of his Doom Powers and finally being completed, Black Doom was going to claim Shadow "mind, body and soul" and become the perfect being, but Shadow was able to resist his attempts at doing so.

Time Manipulation - Shadow can break free of Chaos Control (Metal Overlord is also immune after copying Chaos Control).

Existence Erasure - Shadow is unaffected by Time Eater’s erasure of all of space-time/reality/history.

Conceptual Manipulation (Debatable) - The Sonic cast is able to withstand attacks from the Void. You know, the entity that can destroy a world with infinite dreams. These same dreams being representations of abstract concepts

Law/Fate Manipulation (Debatable) - Super Sonic defeated The End, despite it being attuned to ruling fate on everything that exists across the universe, with its defeat supposedly transcending law and time, Sonic himself even stated that he would have to “break the cause and effect of fate” to defeat it (all this according to the JP script) It is debatable if these are all literal or figure of speech, but The Chaos Emeralds are said to be gems that can accomplish miracles on several occasions, so…maybe?

Forms:

Mewtwo:

Shiny Mewtwo:

Mewtwo, but green.

Mega Mewtwo Y:

After using Mewtwonite Y to mega evolve, Mewtwo transforms into Mega Mewtwo Y, increasing all of its stats except Defense, which is lowered. It loses its previous ability and gains the ability Insomnia, which prevents nap time (my spirit Pokémon). Although in game, it can only mega evolve once per battle, in the Pokémon Adventures chapter titled Mewtwo Angered, it is revealed that Mewtwo is able to mega evolve again due to its special bond with its trainer. In the anime, Smash, Pokken and Mystery Dungeon, it is able to mega evolve at will. It can slow down its perception of time.

Mega Mewtwo X:

After using Mewtwonite X to mega evolve, Mewtwo transforms into Mega Mewtwo X, increasing its attack, defence, and special defence, as well as giving it the fighting type.  It loses its previous ability and gains the ability Steadfast, which raises its speed each time it flinches. Although in game, it can only mega evolve once per battle, in the Pokémon Adventures chapter titled Mewtwo Angered, it is revealed that Mewtwo is able to mega evolve again due to its special bond with its trainer. Pokken implies it can transform by itself.

It also lets it elastically stretch its limbs out. It even learns Psydisaster, where Mewtwo traps its foe in an alternate dimension, before punching a massive amount of psychic energy into its foe.

Shadow Mewtwo (Debatable):

After merging with the Shadow Synergy Stone, they became Shadow Mewtwo! With a more hostile personality Mewtwo travels the region of Ferrum draining the Synergy Power of all trainers it defeats.

This power allows Mewtwo to heal itself which counteracts the Synergy Stone draining their life force as it possesses them. Early game Shadow Mewtwo can likely be used as the game makes no reference to it actively boosting their power, as it seemingly only makes them more evil. The game even makes a point about them draining trainers' energy to power up, seemingly implying the shadow stone doesn't have anything to do with their new powers. The only new power they unlock when using the power of the Shadow Stone is Dark Nova.

There is an argument that a lot of their later powers are exclusive to his pocket universe as that's where his fights take place. The main reasoning would be that they never show a timestop in actual gameplay or any other time aside when you're both within the Dark Colosseum they created. Similarly every space warping ability is restricted to those boss fights.

Outside of the abilities of regular Mewtwo and varied fighting game variants of said moves, it can:

Can seemingly slow down Time (huh?).

     Warp Space.

Mega Evolve, which removes its health draining.

     Existence Erasure (debatable).

Dark Nova - A super move that destroys Earth.

Dimension creation - Called the Dark Colosseum, this possesses shards of Shadow Synergy Stones and spots that erupt with massive amounts of Synergy Power.

     Synergy Burst:

Synergy Burst is the character's transformation essentially. When Mewtwo enters Synergy Burst, it restores some of its HP and creates a shock wave around itself that pushes opponents back.

It also gains a stat buff. As seen above, it can mega evolve at will, mainly into X, theoretically Y as well.

Also, it restores HP passively as long as it’s not getting hit. It should be noted this lasts 13 seconds, and Shadow Mewtwo only lasts 8!

Taking damage in this mode decreases the amount of time it can stay in it in general.

That said, Shadow Mewtwo can stay in Synergy Burst for an indefinite amount of time if it has enough Synergy Power, and even enter a second Synergy Burst that increases its power even further. This can also last indefinitely, and make Mewtwo near invincible. However this aspect is due to Mewtwo having absorbed Synergy Power from nearly every combatant in the region so is likely non-applicable on their own.

Dynamax(non-applicable):

Big Mewtwo. That’s it.

Shadow:

Dark Shadow:

A state that arises when Shadow's mind is invaded by thoughts of darkness. Upon reaching this state, he gains absolute mastery over negative Chaos energy. In this form, Shadow can execute a much more devastating Chaos Blast and wield any weapon without worrying about ammo consumption or durability wear, and is also invulnerable.

This transformation only lasts for a short time, and can also manifest in his Super form.

Hero Shadow:

A state that arises when Shadow's mind is imbued with thoughts of justice. Upon reaching this state, he gains absolute control over positive Chaos energy. In this form, Shadow is capable of executing large-scale Chaos Control, either to multiply his speed or to slow the flow of time. Additionally, he can wield any weapon without worrying about ammunition or durability wear, and is also invulnerable.

This transformation only lasts for a brief moment, and can also manifest in his Super form.

Shadow Evolved:

Although implied to just not be usable after Black Doom's death, how could we not discuss this? The most important thing to note here is, well, if Shadow removes his inhibitors in this form, he’ll die (which sort of gives leeway to the idea that this form may be above Super Shadow).

Although nothing noteworthy, he does gain access to a variety of new techniques, such as:

Doom Spears - Amped up Chaos Spears, he can fire upwards of five of these at once.

Doom Blast - A burst of speed and power that allows Shadow to blitz a target and launch them away.

Doom Surf - Can surf across water on a manta ray-like construct which can reflect projectiles back to sender.

Doom Morph - Shadow transforms into squid-like creature, this allows him to grapple with tendrils, travel beneath the ground and along walls, and go through crates and other similar surfaces.

Doom Wings - He can fly, is invulnerable, has an increased boost meter which replenishes itself fast when he runs out, and can reflect projectiles back to sender. Is seemingly on a timer when in this state, but that could just be gameplay mechanics as he casually strolls around in this form before flying off to confront Black Doom.

Super Shadow:

Super Shadow requires all 7 Chaos Emeralds to transform into, however the form will give him buffs to every stat and infinite stamina. Shadow also becomes… No but seriously this is stated dozens of times.

Sonic states that the Chaos Emeralds give him “unlimited power” in his super form. (All super forms are directly comparable). The only thing that can damage a super form are powers equal to or greater than its own, as seen in the final fight with the End or The Egg Salamander.

He gains access to abilities such as:

Chaos Arrow - Chaos Spear but weaker and faster. Can be charged.

Spear of Light - Chaos Spear but smaller, grouped, and homing.

Negative Energy Nullification - As seen as early as Adventure 1, positive energy overpowers negative.

Parry - He is able parry attacks whether they be close-range or projectiles, and after successfully parrying an attack, everything slows to a crawl without affecting the user.

Power Transfer - Super Sonic gave his teammates power on two separate occasions. In the fight against Solaris and Metal Overlord. Only Knuckles and Tails didn't receive true super forms, poor things.

Chaos Regeneration - Sonic and Shadow save Cosmo from death.

Type 4 Acausality - Super forms are able to function in the Egg Reverie Zone, a dimension where time is distorted constantly and causes base characters to float aimlessly, which is further displayed when, upon reverting back to base forms, they are helpless once again.

Low-Godly Regeneration Negation - All three Super Hedgehogs in their battle with Solaris were able to shatter its light shells and decapitate it, and even after Solaris revitalised and reformed itself with wings, the damage done to it remained despite inheriting the Low-Godly Regeneration from his two halves, Mephiles and Iblis.

Power Nullification - Super users can expand their aura and consume things conjured into existence by the Phantom Ruby, and even shatter Eggman's Otherworlds which are stated to be "infinite" and "super-other dimensional". Eggman theorized that Super Sonic’s power neutralized “Otherworldification” and referred to this as Sonic eradicating all of his dreams, an idea to be taken literally due to the Phantom Ruby applying everyone's inner desires to the planet.

Reality Warping - After defeating Time Eater, Classic and Modern Super Sonic go on to restore reality to the way it was before Time Eater erased it all.

Energy Constructs - In Sonic Frontiers, Super Sonic gained the ability to create Chaos Energy constructs and even CLONES of himself! Allows for even more options to rush down opponents than just turning into an indestructible battering ram.

Soul Manipulation Resistance - It is repeated multiple times that Cyber Corruption is even causing the erosion of Tails, Knuckles, and Amy’s digitized bodies, which are repeatedly stated and implied to be their souls, and even when they split Sonic’s Cyber Corruption amongst each of them, they were still left in excruciating pain, even asking themselves how Sonic was able to endure it for as long as he did. Sonic upon transforming into his Super form is completely unaffected by the negative effects of Cyber Corruption, and it starts affecting him when he reverts to Base.

The form does come with the drawback of needing Rings to sustain it, but with how many he can hold at a time in Sonic Speed Simulator, his items that grant him Rings from Sonic Racing Crossword's and SA2 Battle, paired with Fast Friends and Trails that give him a ton of additional Rings, this shouldn’t be a massive issue for him.

Due to Mewtwo’s status as the one of the strongest Pokémon, he should logically scale above most, if not all feats performed by non-legendary Pokémon.

Gyarados can destroy cities. Should be noted the timeframe is unclear.

Tyranitar can destroy a mountain (3.2 Gigatons of TNT).

Magikarp survived a bomb that dried up Lake Valor (58 Megatons of TNT).

Lance’s Dragonair can create giant craters with Hyper Beam, destroying a city (45.88 Megatons of TNT).

Ampharos can produce light that can be seen from Space (11.4 - 35.9 kilotons of TNT).

Diglett can move at light speed somehow...

Dugtrio can cause 60 mile-wide Earthquakes (25.2 Kilotons of TNT).

Abomasnow can cause this snowstorm (764.88 Megatons of TNT)

Ludicolo can evaporate clouds with Sunny Day (1.58 Exatons of TNT).

Certain Pokémon can create Magnitude 10 Earthquakes (1.04 Teratons of TNT).

Sawk can…cleave the Ocean in half…what the fuck…is this valid? (5.15 Megatons - 3.17 Petatons).

     Kirlia can rip into dimensions.

Gardevoir is able to create a small black hole (5.69 Yottatons - 0.51 FOE)

Gardevoir can create pocket dimensions full of stars (Multi-Solar System, Debatable, see Kyogre VS Chaos but it doesn’t matter given Mewtwo has a blatant dimensional feat).

Unown are able to create an entire alternate reality simply by reading your mind (See Kyogre VS Chaos, likely not that important).

Trainers and their Pokémon:

Only makes sense, right? Typically Mewtwo is presented as above or equal to even the highest trained Pokémon and their trainers, such as:

Giovanni and his Nidoqueen can survive a skyscraper explosion (15.9 - 35.09 Megajoules).

     Giovanni’s Nidoking can destroy Gyms.

Red’s Bulbasaur creates a huge explosion.

May’s Squirtle makes it snow in Fuschia City. (978 Kilotons of TNT).

Riley’s Lucario blocked an explosion that could destroy Iron Island (24.3 Megatons of TNT).

Ash’s Pikachu used a Z move to one-hit KO fused Lusamine, who was able to keep up with and harm Solgaleo.

Gold can take hits from Lugia.

Harmony/Paxton can dodge attacks fired by Legendary Pokémon like Zygarde, Mega Heatran, Mega Darkrai, and Mega Rayquaza

Legendaries, Mythicals, and Ultra-Beasts:

Most of these should be fine. Mewtwo is literally called the strongest Pokémon on earth, so scaling to other legendaries should be adequate for scaling. Some of them however…require more explanation. So be sure to go see Mewtwo’s Scaling Section in Before The Verdicts.

     Entei can erupt volcanoes.

Raikou is as fast as lightning.

Lugia makes a 40-day storm (497.13 Gigatons of TNT).

Ho-Oh and Yellow’s Pikachu's energies can light up most of Kanto, bringing life to the entire region.

Ho-Oh stopped the Sky Fortress from plummeting into the Ocean. This would have flooded the whole Oblivia region.

Ho-Ohs feather can create giant storms (38 Teratons of TNT, higher with multipliers).

Groudon can destroy several small islands.

Groudon cleared Kyogre’s island-sized storms within 6.04 seconds.

Groudon created an artificial sun (30.43 Megatons - 2.218 Gigatons of TNT / Mach 280).

Groudon can shape/raise continents (216.31 Petatons of TNT).

Kyogre is implied to be able to flood the planet (20 Exatons of TNT).

Primal Groudon and Kyogre together could stop the Grand Meteor Delta (26.75 Zettatons of TNT each, assuming baseline planet level meteor).

Rayquaza can destroy the Grand Delta Meteor (at least 1.1 Gigatons of TNT, Likely Planet level)

Rayquaza can shatter “stars” capable of planet-busting.

Rayquaza helped halt the Tree of Life's descent into the Sun. This would have pulled the planet into the sun (4.8 Ronnatons of TNT).

During the Hoopa movie, Rayquaza created a Twister in seconds, which completely stopped the attacks of Kyogre, Groudon, Giratina, Palkia, Dialga, and Kyurem.

Deoxys, whom Mewtwo consistently fights and defeats, controlled the Grand Meteor Delta, which was zooming in from the Edge of the Galaxy to reach Earth in 10 days (986,175c) and would have destroyed the planet (at least 53.5 Zettatons, baseline Planet level).

Regigigas can tow continents (1.6 - 7.3 Teratons of TNT).

Reshiram’s can move the atmosphere and change the world’s weather (246.94 Gigatons - 280 Teratons of TNT).

Reshiram can scorch the world over (275.93 Petatons of TNT).

Kyurem pissed so hard he froze a city. Potentially could have froze all of Unova. (4.8 Petatons of TNT).

In the Manga, Kyurem’s beam from the regular world also pierced into and froze part of the dream world, which is an entire alternate dimension.

Yveltal covers the entire planet with darkness.

AZ’s ultimate weapon, powered by Xerneas & Yveltal, could destroy a city and pierce a giant circle of clouds that could be seen from orbit (2 - 8 Exatons of TNT & Mach 1,885.7 - Mach 3,771.4).

50% Zygarde vaguely  kept up with Ultra Necrozma during flight.

Volcanion blew up a mountain range (47.25 Gigatons of TNT).

Solgaleo and Lunala can travel through Ultra-Space, crossing thousands of light-years in a few minutes (at least 1 Billion c - Possibly Infinite (See Before the Verdicts).

Solgaleo can light up the world/universe (34.93 teraFOE) (See BTV).

Solgaleo/Lunala help return the light from Ultra Megalopolis to the main universe through Ultra Space. (3.71 - 9.27 Billion times FTL - Possibly Infinite) (Debatable, See BTV).

Regular Necrozma is capable of absorbing the light, and Ultra Necrozma lighting up all of Ultra Space with a singular Photon Geyser. (Likely Infinite + Universal - 5D) (Debateable Scaling, See Before the Verdicts).

Eternatus covered Galar in a huge storm (287.95 Megatons of TNT)

Darkrai:

Darkrai and Mewtwo clash during the Diamond and Pearl arc of the manga when Team Galactic try to capture Deoxys, and Darkrai is able to hold off Mewtwo before Sird calls off the attack. This is grounds for scaling their AP which is important due to:

Darkrai can resist the pull of a black hole he had inadvertently created while trying to merge two universes, and make the ultimate sacrifice faster than the black hole could pull in the other Pokémon (4.58 Quadrillion c)

Should be noted that scaling to Low Multi is not applicable due to Darkrai's death.

Darkrai fights both Dialga and Palkia at once, He was even able to stop them in their tracks with his Nightmare abilities, however this didn't last long

In the manga version, his forcefield blocks their dimension-ending attack, this is even in the anime

It should be noted Darkrai could survive only a single top-level attack as he “dies” after the first attack.

Dialga is manipulated by Darkrai who was nearly able to get him to destroy the world.

This point could be due the Dialga from Mystery Dungeon and the Dialga being differently powered variants.

This is backed up by the major differences in their universes. Such as how in Mystery dungeon he lives in the Temporal Tower, while in the anime he lives in the World Between. So complete 1-1 scaling to Dialga is a bit hazy.

Mega Darkrai creates Hyperspace (Elaboration in BTV).

The Creation Trio (Debatable, See Before The Verdicts):

The 3 beings that are responsible for time, space, and anti-matter. We won’t go much into it here, but there are several avenues to justify scaling:

Dialga distorts the flow of time itself with just a single roar.

Time began to move when Dialga was born. With its birth, time in the visible world began to flow ceaselessly, like a great river.

The concept of time was made when Dialga was born.

Dialga, just as an accident due to being under the control of the Red Chain, turned every single Pokémon in an alternate universe into an egg, for seemingly over a week straight.

Palkia's birth made an infinite universe.

Dialga can travel at will to the past and future (Immeasurable) (Debatable, see BTV).

Palkia is stated to be the ‘master’ of the ‘ever-expanding’ dimensions. Dimensions plural reinforced here (See BTV).

Ultra-Space would theoretically have to have been created by Palkia given the Universe was born ‘from nothing’ (Universal+ - 5D).

Palkia/Dialga make a galaxy in a short amount of time (416.67 billion times FTL).

Dialga and Palkia could wipe out entire Dimensions with just a single beam clash.

Dialga and Palkia can cause space and time to distort and eventually collapse.

Yet another clash threatened all of space, time, and reality - collapsing it all into nothing.

ANOTHER clash (get a room) suggests they moved their realms at high-speeds (404.1 Quadrillion c - 6.03 Quintillion c) (Invalid, see BTV).

By extension, scales to Giratina, who balances both the Normal and Distortion Worlds, Exists on the opposite end of the multiverse where space-time isn’t stable. The poor guy even maintained it during Dialga and Palkia’s clash.

Giratina's dimensional rift would have destroyed the world over time. Debatably multiple Universes (Low Multi, See BTV).

Shadow:

Sonic The Hedgehog:

While he has admitted that Sonic is ultimately faster than him, he still regularly keeps up with the Blue Blur. He also regularly fights Sonic in SA2 and Prime and is able to keep up, implying they’re a similar strength in base form, Sonic can perform various feats, such as:

Sonic can move at Light-Speed in the Adventure Era.

Sonic can fall from above the clouds to the ground. Twice.

Sonic destroyed E-18 and a large section of Eggman’s island base.

Along with 3 others, Sonic can stop a moving train.

Sonic Blew up a Mountain (200 Tons of TNT).

Sonic broke off a giant stalactite (100 Kilotons of TNT).

Sonic outruns and survives getting hit with a Black Hole.

Sonic ran up and broke the chains off of Little Planet (7.5 - 919.4 Exatons of TNT).

Sonic ran up the giant chain to Little Planet in seconds.

Dodged the Nega Wisp Armor’s Cyan Laser (2.88c).

Moved so fast lasers appear frozen. (17,030 c).

Sonic flies unknown interstellar distances (16 Million C).

Capable of reacting to Shadow´s Chaos Control (see Shadow speed section).

Matched Perfect Chaos (in base), who wielded the raw negative energy of the Chaos Emeralds.

Survived the epicenter of the Paradox Prism exploding (Low Multi, 6 Universes).

Sonic, with more than half of his life-force extinguished, can fight Erazor Djinn, who at the time had absorbed well over half of the Arabian Nights. (Low Multi, 2 Universes)

Classic Sonic and Modern Sonic both survive being struck by the Time Eater, as well as dodge his attacks in base form.

Escaped Null Space by running (Possibly Infinite, see BTV).

While amped by Prism energy, Ran so fast he high-fived himself. (Infinite).

Accelerated through time restoring colour and life to erased locations in White Space …by running (Immeasurable).

In a weakened state, is able to escape Cyber Space with his sheer speed, with Cyber Space being an entirely separate reality. (Infinite, Debatable, See BTV)

With slight difficulty, Darkspine Sonic is able to catch, push back and launch Alf Layla wa-Layla's Spirit Blast attack which has the words of the Arabian Nights in it, the world of the Arabian Nights is formed by text and manuscripts, which implies Alf Layla wa-Layla is throwing REALITY ITSELF at Darkspine Sonic (Immeasurable Lifting Strength)

Sonic´s Friends:

Throughout the years, Sonic and his friends (and frenemies, sometimes) have fought through thick & thin against a wide array of enemies and have always come out on top, given Shadow being relative to Sonic, he should in turn compare to those who sometimes tag along to either help Sonic out, or make his day more difficult:

Tails can drag around 10 tons.

Along with Sonic, Tails and Knuckles, destroyed several ships in the Egg Fleet.

Pretty much the whole playable cast in Advance 2 can survive a fall from orbit.

Silver can toss around masses of scrap metal, rubble and entire vehicles into giant projectiles.

Gamma can dodge Beta’s lasers (5.232c).

Emerl absorbed the power of Eggman's Final Egg Blaster, which wiped out a few stars (4.56 KiloFoe - 41.25 TeraFoe)

Silver can stop the Death Egg from falling.

In the Riders series, the playable cast, comprised of Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Amy, and the Babylon Rogues, can race and fight against:

Master Core: ABIS, who created the Lightless Black, a black hole that can ‘destroy everything’ (mainly the planet), that contains a realm with stars and galaxies inside it, and can move said galaxies around with the same gravity powers he races and fights the playable cast with (196.4 Billion c, 6.5 FOE - 14.13 QuettaFOE) (Debatable Speed, See BTV).

The Babylon Guardian, who can warp the digital dimension, a realm that extends to Infinity (High Universal+, See BTV).

Chaos Emeralds:

By tapping into his Super form, Shadow wields the full unlimited might of the Chaos Emeralds, when wielding that same power, be it heroic hedgehogs, complex machines or others, the emeralds can accomplish amazing displays of power, for instance:

Zavok, empowered by an emerald, can tilt Angel Island (932.5 Gigatons - 8.3 Teratons).

Sonic states that a Chaos Emerald can blow away a moon.

With 5 Emeralds, the Eclipse Cannon creates giant explosions seen from space (28.3 Teratons of TNT).

With 6, it destroys part of the moon (376.9 Zettatons of TNT).

Super Silver can pull the metal virus from Earth (583 Yottatons).

And throw it into the Sun (1.1 Ronnatons).

And is said to pierce through stars at full power AKA with all 7 emeralds (32.1 Quettatons of TNT).

Eggman's Chaos Energy cannon can shatter the Earth into large chunks (7.2 Yottatons of TNT), and each emerald can piece them back together (50 Yottatons - 1.9 Ronnatons).

The Sol Emeralds were tearing apart the space-time continuum and merging Sonic's and Blaze's universes (2-12x Universal, see Sonic Prime in Cosmology)

     …and would have destroyed them.

The Ancients used the Chaos Emeralds to create and power their technology, including Cyber Space, a digital dimension where their hopes, dreams & memories are uploaded and preserved (Universal+ - 5D) (Debatable if anyone scales to this given the lack of research on if the Ancients only used the baseline power of the Chaos Emeralds to create and power Cyber Space).

The Chaos Emeralds could restore all of Space-Time from White Space.

One Chaos Emerald with an energy output of ZERO is able to harm Time Eater. (How tf…?)

Eggman:

The man with the master plan! He may not always be the main bad guy, but Eggman will always be the most iconic. Shadow would naturally scale.

Final Egg Blaster can reach star clusters in a few seconds (6 Billion to 58 Billion C) (See BTV).

Eggman and Super Sonic flew to the Nonaggression Zone (7 Billion C) (Questionable calc, See BTV).

The Egg Mobile survived being sucked into a Hyper Go On black hole, and that same black hole would destroy Terminal Velocity (1.7 to 379 KiloFOE).

Along with his past self and the rookie, Sonic destroyed the Mega Death Egg Robot, which filled the background of Null Space with Stars

It is also powered by the Phantom Ruby, which created an alternate timeline in the form of Sonic Mania Adventures/Plus when exposed to the Chaos Emeralds.

Wielding the Jeweled Scepter, The Egg Wizard can harness the “Power of the Stars”, which is stated to be the very thing that sustains the existence of parallel dimensions.

It is also stated to hold more power than both the Chaos AND Sol Emeralds, yet Super Sonic and Burning Blaze were still able to defeat it.

Time Eater destroyed the universe and all of spacetime, and is able to manipulate the verse’s superimposing hypertimeline which includes the infinite multiverse, Maginaryworld, Cyber Space, Eggman’s Otherworlds, and Dodon Pa’s Simulated Race Tracks (122 Quadrillion - 2.2 Quintillion c - 6.7 Quintillion c, Very Likely Immeasurable) (5D-6D).

Time Eater can seemingly move in and out of the Infinite Tunnel Dimension and The Time Eater and the Super Sonics fly through The End Of Time/Infinite Tunnel Dimension described as a timestream (Immeasurable - Higher Degree of Immeasurable) (Debatable, See BTV).

Used The Paradox Prism and crunched the entire universe into nothing (1.46 quintillion C) (Universal - Low Multi, See BTV).

Misc Villains:

Super Shadow should also be comparable to various world-ending gods, titans and machines, whom the power of the Chaos Emeralds can match or even are outright superior to, such villains and feats include:

Dark Gaia has destroyed the planet countless times, and pushed a post 06 Super Sonic to exhaustion. (See Solaris section below)

Void was going to erase Maginaryworld from existence with his darkness alone.

Void also destroyed the Precioustone, which created, sustains and protects Maginaryworld.

Maginaryworld contains and is the source of all dreams in the Sonic cosmology (See Before the Verdicts)

Alf Layla wa-Layla could alter entire realities and reduce all of space-time to an endless void.

Erazor Djinn had absorbed well over half of the Arabian Nights. (½ Universal to Universal) (See BTV).

Merlina was going to merge the storybook-universe with the Underworld (1-2x Universal)

Infinite was described as Sonic’s “Strongest Enemy Yet” (Inapplicable, See Before The Verdicts)

The End threatened to tear down the walls between dimensions and consume all once the seals were broken, leaving Sonic convinced that he had to save everyone “everywhere”.

The End had destroyed multiple planets and stars prior to its imprisonment

The End, after reading Sonic´s mind, regarded all of Sonic´s past foes up until that point as infinitely insignificant compared to itself. (Debatable, See in Before The Verdicts)

Solaris:

This Superdimensional being is the building block behind Sonic in Powerscaling, Shadow being one of the characters who can directly scale.

Solaris covered the entire universe and beyond with its light (77 - 382.8 Quadrillion c, Very likely Immeasurable) (See BTV).

Solaris exists across all of time, the past, present, and future all at once, its attacks are shown to be throughout all of time itself and it is stated that it would´ve consumed all timelines, thus collapsing all space-time, reducing everything to nothingness. (6D) (Immeasurable - Possibly Higher Degree of Immeasurable given its existence permeates across a Hypertimeline due to its super-dimensional status)

Solaris had already consumed multiple dimensions.

Black Doom:

The one who started it all, being the entity responsible for Shadow’s incredible might, Black Doom has sought time and time and again to claim Shadow as is, and he almost had the power necessary to do so:

Black Doom can create copies of certain points in time (like Radical Highway my beloved). He refers to this as his world, or, a Doom Zone, where he can shape it to his will.

Black Doom had direct influence over White Space, and was preventing the time anomaly from healing (5D, likely 6D) (See Cosmology).

Eventually, Black Doom encompassed all of White Space (seemingly) in a Doom Zone within 3 seconds, sustained with his very life (489 Quadrillion - 5.86 Quintillion c, Likely Infinite, possibly Immeasurable).

Ian Flynn claims Doom threatened ‘all of creation’ (Possibly Hyperbole, but possibly valid given how much of the cosmology he can affect).

Weaknesses:

Mewtwo:

Mewtwo of course has his fair share of weaknesses. It potentially has tunnel vision of only defeating his foes to be exploited, although mega evolution can calm it. It is also not immune to having its power being restricted (he later broke out with help from Ash's Pikachu at the cost of most of its energy).

From a gameplay perspective, it is Weak to Dark, Bug and Ghost type attacks (Flying and Fairy too for X). Flying out of orbit will damage it due to atmospheric pressure, and (MANGA ONLY) Due to sharing some of Blaine’s DNA, and vice versa, being separated too long will only do more harm then good, weakening them both, and being on a time limit before both begin to weaken.

The Shadow Synergy Stone hurts Mewtwo, it can be possessed and corrupted, and commonly gets overwhelmed or exhausted in prolonged combat. Despite being the strongest Pokémon, Mewtwo has limited stamina that can be worn done

Shadow:

It’s entirely possible Shadows' past could be used against him, and has been. (Though it’s worth noting he has mostly moved on from his past since Shadow Gens, even with Doom trying to weaponize said past).

The super forms can be definitively timed out as even in the Metal Virus arc Sonic worries about running out of time. Nullifying Super Shadow’s power, removing the Emeralds from his body, and then releasing the latent dark energy within the Emeralds would prevent him from immediately entering his Super form again. Super forms can also have their invulnerability bypassed by characters who utilise Chaos Energy and the original Phantom Ruby’s reality warping, being overwhelmed by a strong attack isn’t the reason they get damaged or get knocked out of their forms, for example enemies like the Egg Salamander and Phantom King can bypass Super forms’ invulnerability, yet the stronger Egg Wizard and Time Eater cannot.

Plus, If inhibitors can be removed in Evolved form, he may die instantly.

Before the verdicts…

Does Mewtwo have Soul Manipulation (and how)?:

In the Main Series games alongside the Detective Pikachu film, Mewtwo has been shown to have the capability of effecting the soul several times. Even lesser Pokémon like Haunter famously remove Ash’s soul from his body in Tower of Terror.

Mewtwo not only is able to fire attacks made up of spiritual energy (Dark Pulse, Aura Sphere) but he should be capable of sensing and effecting the souls of others in similar ways. The detective Pikachu example is the more blatant, but with how other Pokémon are shown to do this regularly I don't see any reason Mewtwo wouldn’t have some amount of Soul Hax. Aura is even stated to be a spiritual energy that's connected to every living being.

Why no Z-Moves/Dynamax/Doom Powers?:

Z moves require the energy of the Trainer, and Dynamax are exclusive to the Galar region due to the existence of Eternatus so both of these would require outside help.

The Shadow Synergy Stone is another item that's likely inaccessible for a standard Mewtwo, however the game itself states all of the abilities Mewtwo uses are without the power of the Synergy stone aside from PsyDisaster as it just makes Mewtwo more hostile and aggressive. So he doesn't really lose anything important without that stone, and if anything it actually helps him more by not having it.

Similarly the Doom Powers were due to Black Doom’s link with Shadow (Gerald EXPLICITY says that the Doom Powers were all a part of Doom’s plan and that they’re linked by blood) and we see that as soon as he's destroyed in Shadow Generations, Shadow loses the Powers. Shadow himself even mentions severing the bond between himself and Black Doom permanently. We mentioned them just to be thorough but they’re all inaccessible.

Pokémon Cosmology:

Oh boy here we go, now if you’re not convinced Mewtwo can even scale to parts of the cosmology, we’ll get to that.

The basics of the Universe and Multiverse:

Starting us off we know that the Universe has infinite time and space, as stated directly by Gen 4s director. This is expanded upon in Legends Arceus as there not just being infinite time and space for the main universe, but there being ‘innumerable’ other Universes as well (not exactly infinite, but it expands infinitely). These parallel dimensions were created by Palkia (some of these suggest that Palkia is the master of ‘spatial dimensions’, but some blatantly state he made multiple universes). If that wasn’t enough, the anime directly uses many worlds interpretation - meaning every choice branches a new world. Scientists have also stated that interactions in one timeline can be happening in another unconnected timeline, due to the innumerable complexities of space-time.

There’s also areas like The Dream World and The Cyberspace (might just be a fancy term for a digital world), where not much is known about them, but them being separate universes would add to the cosmology. Rainbow Rocket and Classic Red in Masters also reinforce parallel dimensions existing.

The Entralink:

The Entralink is a space where players in-game (in Black and White) can travel to other players’ ‘worlds’, implying your save file is it’s own universe. Opalucid City changing its time depending on which version of Gen 5 you own reinforces this. Hell, trading has been described as sending a Pokémon through space and time or from another world. A popular way of gauging the meaning of this is adding millions of universes to the cosmology through how many copies of Pokémon have actually been sold, or at the very least, the Black and White copies.

The Reflection Cave:

The Reflection Cave from X and Y contains numerous mirrors blatantly linking to different universes, constantly leading to new caves with a new set of universes, potentially never-ending. Basically this reinforces the ‘innumerable’ dimensions statement from the games.

Ultra-space:

From Sun and Moon, Ultra Space is another dimension, but also a connection point to thousands of parallel worlds (it contains Ultra Wormholes that lead to them). It also connects to alternate timelines where the villains won. Meaning Ultra-Space acts as a gateway to the worlds and timelines.

TLDR - We know that there is an infinite universe and infinite timeline created by Dialga and Palkia, with a vast multiverse possibly made by them as well, as well as having some form of Many-Worlds Interpretation. Entralink may sound weird but if taking at face value it can justify scaling the Pokémon Universe number to the amount of copies of Black and White sold (15.64 Million), the amount of copies of all mainline games sold (349 Million), or every mainline and spin-off game (515+ Million). Yeah it’s a bit of a weird argument and even depends on what source you draw upon for game sales, but weird doesn’t mean invalid here since the proof exists.

5D Arguments:

So far, everything we've discussed is fairly straightforward. Pokémon possesses a universe with infinite space and time, innumerable parallel worlds with some funny save file arguments, alternate timelines, Ultra Space, the Distortion World, the Dream World, and several other realities that exist alongside the main universe. The real question is whether any of these structures qualify as higher-dimensional.

The primary argument comes from places like Ultra Space, the Distortion World, and the mysterious realm occupied by Dialga and Palkia from Journeys (although in the movies they seem to just be regular dimensions). In Pokémon Platinum, Palkia is stated to reside within a gap in a spatial dimension parallel to our own. Meanwhile, the Distortion World exists independently of space and time altogether. Ultra Space connects countless worlds and timelines together.

Whilst some interpret places like Ultra-Space as containing these worlds and timelines, note that Pokémon almost never explicitly calls these places higher dimensions. They're usually described as dimensions, worlds, realms, or alternate spaces. While they possess unusual properties compared to our universe, having weird physics does not automatically make something higher-dimensional. A universe without time like the Distortion World is still a universe unless the story specifically establishes otherwise…which it doesn’t. The same logic could be used to apply to Ultra-Space.

Basically, if Ultra Space genuinely encompasses and/or transcends the countless timelines and universes connected to it, then a 5D interpretation becomes much easier to justify. If it's simply a crossroads linking those realities together, then the argument becomes significantly weaker.

TLDR - It’s unquestionably multiversal and The Creation Trio should be able to scale to at least a chunk of it. Whether it reaches into higher-dimensional territory depends largely on how you interpret Ultra Space, the Distortion World, and the realms associated with Dialga and Palkia. The evidence exists. Whether it convinces you is another matter entirely.

There’s also Arceus’ Realm but likely nobody aside God itself scales to it.

Hyperspace:

In Pokémon Legends ZA we’re introduced to a new dimension which is named “Hyperspace” by the Rust Syndicate. Throughout the story they discover that it’s a realm made up of the subconscious thoughts and memories of all people and Pokémon in Kalos.

Later in the story we begin to see Hyperspace affect the real world as dimensional rifts are opened across Kalos and people/Pokémon are being forced in and out of random portals. Corbeau even states that Hyperspace could consume all of Kalos given time. Fast forward a little and you get the realization that everyone's favorite edgelord Darkrai is behind the existence of Hyperspace. Not only that but he is single handedly sustaining the entire alternate dimension on his own.

Naturally, this immediately sparked discussions about whether Pokémon's cosmology had just grown even larger. This not only gives Darkrai one of the strongest feats in all of Pokémon, but it also arguably pushes the verse to 6 Dimensional…right?

Well.. Not exactly. This is a little complicated but the TLDR is that Hyperspace is seemingly smaller than an entire universe as it's literally just a copy of Kalos and a few important locations (Sky Pillar, Cave of Origin). It should be noted that while it lacks flowing time, this…doesn’t prove or disprove anything really. That could mean it’s equal to our plane of reality but just lacks time, could be below, could be equal to us, could be above us, but there’s no blatant proof. While undeniably impressive, that makes it difficult to argue that Hyperspace automatically exists on a higher-dimensional level than Ultra Space or even the Distortion World, let alone the universe.

Similarly this also isn't a valid upscale to the Legendaries who are relative to Darkrai as Darkrai explicitly cannot perform the Hyperspace feat in base form, nor in his mega form as sustaining Hyperspace nearly kills him by the end of the DLC. Darkrai was being amped by the years worth of mega energy stored inside of Prism Tower and that allowed him to create and sustain Hyperspace for around a month in universe, but the only Pokémon who could possibly scale are the top tiers like Arceus and 100% Zygarde (considering he's the one who destroyed the rampaging tower in the first place)

TLDR - Hyperspace is probably best viewed as an incredibly powerful feat for prep-time Mega Darkrai rather than definitive proof that the entire cosmology has suddenly jumped from 5D to 6D. THEN there’s evidence that it might just be a country sized pocket dimension at most.

Herald-Tier Mewtwo???

Oh boy oh boy it’s time to talk about Mewtwo scaling. There’s been a lot of debate over the years on where he scales, some would prefer to cap him at Planet, some go with Solar System level, others a lot higher! When we say ‘herald’ scaling, we of course refer to the idea of scaling to The Creation Trio (no we are not arguing for Arceus scaling lmao), the creators of the core concepts - time, space, and anti-matter. The big downside is that Mewtwo has no direct scaling himself, he has never canonically met them, but through the magic of chain scaling, there are plenty of arguments to suggest he’d be alright squaring up to their might…and a few that may go against that notion. Let’s discuss them:

Arguments For:

Hoopa, and the Clash of Ages:

During the film, Hoopa summons mind controlled versions of all our favourite legends - Latios, Latias, Lugia, Reshiram, Zekrom, Kyreum, Mega Rayquaza, the Creation Trio…everyone but our boy :( Regardless, most of the Pokémon here Mewtwo should be more than comparable to.

Anyways, this segment of the movie is basically just Hoopa (and the writers) smashing action figures together. This is important, as the writers blatantly did not give a Rattatas ass about the implications this had - they’re all portrayed as relative. Don’t believe me? Rayquaza fights and harms Giratina, alongside nearly every other legendary. Later on in said film, Rayquaza with its protagonist powers creates a tornado…and despite ALL of the box-art legends attacking it, they cannot overpower Rayquaza’s tornado. Hell, Latios and Latias can dodge attacks from the trio. The point being if you watched this movie blind, you’d think Dialga and Palkia only square up to the usual planet level feats from other legends. This whole film basically establishes that the writers do not care about scaling and that, at least in the anime, box-art legendaries are all considered generally as strong as each other - and since anime Mewtwo is the one with the most connections to Shadow this is a solid argument for Creation Trio scaling.

Darkrai:

We previously established Darkrai and Mewtwo’s relativity, Darkrai in its movie was able to survive 1 attack from Dialga and Palkia at the same time, and that attack is stated to be a dimension-ending one. So at the least there’s some amount of scaling you can apply. In Mystery Dungeon 2, Darkrai is also the main villain, the mastermind behind Dialga's corruption. The exact method is unknown, but regardless, the devs clearly believe Darkrai is a worthy threat.

Team Rainbow Rocket:

In Pokémon Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon, Team Rainbow Rocket is an organization led by Giovanni, but there’s a catch. He’s summoned every Evil Team Leader up to that point! Maxie, Archie, Cyrus, Ghetsis, and Lysandre. The lore states that each of them succeeded in their own universe, that exact specifics being a bit unclear, either they defeated the player, or they just went unchallenged.

This is important as each leader has their respective legendary by their side. Due to that most people assume thanks to Giovanni being the leader and top Banana he should be the strongest of the bunch.

To make things even crazier, this is USUM, meaning you’ve already fought against Ultra Necrozma by this point in the story!

Arguments Against:

Does Darkrai REALLY scale fully?

Darkrai did successfully block a max-power attack from Dialga and Palkia, and that’s not to be downplayed! The issue is that Darkrai is exponentially weakened afterwards, to the point he barely survives another attack and was believed to be dead. It could be argued by this logic that Darkrai only severely downscales (although Mega forms didn't exist at this time, so you could argue Mega Darkrai and Mewtwo would be able to scale).

Team Rainbow Rocket Issues:

Mewtwo potentially scaling to the creation trio could potentially be called into question as Cyrus’ notes state they can't use their full power inside a Pokéball, hence the necessity of the red chain to control them. Despite this Cyrus in Rainbow Rocket uses them in Pokéballs. This would mean that the protagonist is fighting against a nerfed Creation trio member in their boss fight, and not their full power

Another issue is that the Red Chain was made to weaken and harness the Creation Trio’s power, and as explained in the episode “The Gates of Warp” the red chain causes the creation duo to be trapped in a dimension and unable to properly control their powers, as during that episode Palkia continuously opened random dimensional portals, and Dialga affected multiple alternate universes with its time abilities, meaning if Cyrus captured them via a Pokéball then the CT are nerfed, and if they used the Red Chain they’re going to be nerfed. So aside from the Hoopa film chainscaling it's very shaky on if the scaling is even valid.

The Manga:

We mentioned earlier how Mewtwo in the manga fought 50% Zygarde whilst mega evolved. Mewtwo later survives a point blank Dragon Pulse without much harm from Zygarde. This should set the precedent of 50% Zygarde and Mewtwo being relative enough. However that fight wasn't just a 1v1, Mewtwo X is defeated immediately then the fight turns into a 1v6 as X (the trainer, not Mewtwo) had obtained mega stones from 5 other trainers to do this. This seems to imply that Mega Mewtwo X barely even scales to Zygarde 50% as he was so easily defeated that Zygarde immediately went to run the gauntlet of Mega Evolutions.

But lets just say he fully scales to Zygarde 50% just to give full benefit of the doubt.
Zygarde in the following generation goes on to fight Ultra Nekrozma while in 100% form and is able to hold its ground. Zygarde loses their first round, but for round 2 Soglaleo, Lunala, and Zygarde 100% all jump Nekrozma together.

However, it's stated several times that the only reason they beat Ultra Nekrozma in the end is because they were taking turns exhausting him and blinding him over and over to the point that they can catch and stop Nekrozma. Hell they even needed to revive Zygarde, Solgaleo, and Lunala during the fight since they had been defeated mid battle several times. So saying Mewtwo somehow transcends UN when he couldn’t even beat Zygarde 50% is incredibly sketchy to say the least.

There’s an argument to be had Mewtwo, at least in Mega, scales to base Necrozma absorbing the light of Ultra-Space, but the infinite speed feat argument (lighting up Ultra Space) is performed by Ultra Necrozma.

Finite Pokémon Speed Arguments:

There are a surprising number of feats from this franchise that require a lot of evaluation, so let’s talk speed now:

Ultra-Space Travel:

Assuming the previous Rayquaza scaling is accepted, there isn't much reason to not scale Kyogre to mons like Solgaleo and Lunala. Both are consistently portrayed below Ultra Necrozma and the likes of 100% Zygarde. More importantly, Solgaleo and Lunala possess an important speed feat - traveling through Ultra Space.

Ultra Space is a vast network of wormholes to worlds and realities separated by large distances. Throughout the games, anime, etc, Solgaleo and Lunala are shown crossing these distances in relatively short timeframes. Even conservative interpretations place these journeys at thousands of light-years traversed within minutes, resulting in speeds billions of times faster than light. Whilst an Infinite Ultra-Space argument exists, we blatantly see the max distance they have travelled.

Solgaleo Lights up the Planet…or Universe?

Then there's Solgaleo's Pokédex entries, which describe it as capable of "lighting up the world." Normally, statements like this are fairly easy to dismiss as referring to a planet. The issue is that Solgaleo's lore associates it with other worlds and dimensions (Ultra-Space), it literally travels throughout the multiverse with you in USUM. Multiple Pokédex entries describe Solgaleo as originating from another world, explicitly referring to Ultra Space, while others state that its Ultra Wormholes can bring life and energy from other worlds into our own. Its Shield Pokédex entry even states that light radiates from it "boundlessly".

Solgaleo can also fuse with Necrozma, who can absorb and restore light across multiple worlds connected through Ultra Space. Scaling to Necrozma is not applicable to anyone else, but this does reinforce the Solgaleo interpretation.

That being said, nothing outright states that Solgaleo can illuminate an entire universe, and the safer reading is still that "world" may simply refer to a planet. However, with Solgaleo's lore, and the franchise's repeated use of "world" to describe alternate realities, the universe interpretation isn't bad. So TLDR, Multi-Solar System Solgaleo is arguable for scaling.

Ultra Necrozma’s Defeat:

After Ultra Necrozma’s defeat in US/UM, Solgaleo/Lunala return to normal, and then restore the stolen light from the main world from Megaopolis, a feat calculated in the early Billion X FTL range! But is it actually a speed feat? We’ll use the sun version, where Solgaleo basically just taps the light with its nose before it floats into the air, and we cut to the main world where the light is restored.

The math isn’t terrible, the light returns after being tapped a small distance. But what is Solgaleo actually doing? If he just propels it back to Alola, then making this a valid speed feat becomes more likely…at least for projectile speed, since the light doesn’t move until Solgaleo interacts with it.

There is also the argument that Solgaleo does this via an ability, simply releasing the stolen light. He may send it a small distance and then release it. Even then we have to consider the fact Solgaleo is able to travel through Ultra-Space, meaning it could just be sent through a portal of sorts. Hell, dex entries state that its Ultra Wormholes can bring life and energy from other worlds into our own.

Point is, I’d hesitate calling this a major speed feat without giving it some thought, quite similar to Kyurem's attack.

Poképark My Beloved:

One of the highest speed-metas for Pokémon comes from Poképark of all things (PART 3 OR REMAKES PLEASE).

In the second entry, Darkrai accidentally creates the Dark Vortex while attempting to merge PokéPark and Wish Park, with the vortex eventually threatening both worlds. Despite the pull of the Vortex dragging nearby Pokémon toward it, Darkrai is able to travel directly against it without issue, literally standing still whilst everyone is getting sucked in prior, reaching its epicenter before the vortex can consume the others and ultimately sacrificing itself to save both worlds - a feat quadrillions times faster then light if we account for what the vortex is doing!

With that said, the Dark Vortex may not be a literal black hole, and more just a universe-destroying force, leading some to argue that Darkrai's success is partially due to its connection to the vortex itself/a resistance. However, this is still an assumption, and Darkrai is still visibly shown moving against the Vortex's pull while other Pokémon are being dragged toward it, giving the feat a much stronger basis as a raw speed showing alongside the properties of it being a black hole.

Dialga and Palkia move with their Dimensions:

No. This is one that other blogs have brought up that upon knowing the context isn’t exactly applicable. In the Gen 4 Movies, Dialga and Palkia clash, believing the other to be invading their territory. In actuality, Arceus’ rage during its slumber pushes the dimension of space, and the dimension of time together. So yeah, not even applicable for Dialga/Palkia, if my house got moved into mars it doesn’t mean I’m Relativistic.

Immeasurable Rotom and Dialga???

Rotom:

In episode 81 of Pokémon XY, Ash and the gang travel to a rundown hotel and meet a Rotom who, after fusing with an Elevator, takes them to the past.

Argument For:

The main argument for this feat is that there is no reason to believe that a seemingly normal lift would have any special time travel properties, as this location was not established as supernatural in any way. The source of the time travel is clearly Rotom, this is especially true considering the lift changed its appearance as soon as Rotom possessed it. While you could argue that this feat seems to be more of a hax ability then a speed feat:

1- We haven't seen any other Rotom showcase any kind of time travel ability before or after this point,

2- The lift very clearly moves downwards while time travelling. Ash and the gang even react to this movement, very clearly showing that Rotom is physically moving the lift throughout time by itself.

While Rotom clearly wouldn't be able to time travel without the lift, as shown by the gang reacting to the downward movement, it is still clearly using its own speed to time travel. In the same way that it uses its own special attack when it possesses a dish washer and uses hydro pump (while rotom forms do have different stats, less immeasurable speed is still immeasurable speed). While you could argue that Rotom wasn't perceiving the time travel, it managed to stop the lift at the exact right time it needed too, down to the minute, so it was clearly reacting to its own movement or, if you believe it isn't moving the lift by itself, the lifts movement. Even if you wanna argue that Rotom wouldn't have immeasurable speed outside of the lift form, I think we can all agree that Mewtwo would probably be faster than some random Rotom, so it should far upscale any form it may take.

Argument Against:

  1. During the clip linked above it shows Rotom was in a sort of “time dimension” before the Elevator even began moving, implying that his acceleration wasn't what sent them through time, and instead was a result of them being placed in a time stream or something similar. This would still give Rotom time travel powers, but would instead mean that it can somehow move into the timestream then travels through time.
  1. In a previous episode of Pokémon X&Y, Malamar were shown to merge themselves with a machine which somehow gave them access to the time stream and let them time travel into the future. This would imply that somehow some Pokémon can time travel, but it's through the help of devices which are augmented to be able to time travel. (just like how the Elevator changed design in order to take them back 5 years in the past).
  2. Finally there’s nothing backing up that Rotom itself reacts or even perceives things while moving at this speed. It picks a date and time and the Elevator begins moving to that pre-determined date. So even if he was moving immeasurably fast it likely doesn't scalable to anybody.

So, pick your poison. There’s also one more feat we need to discuss, and that is:

Dialga’s Time Travel:

As we all know, Dialga controls the concept of time, and in certain games, it is stated it can travel through time ‘at will’, sounds like you’d need to break the speed equation to carry out such a feat…right?

Well...maybe not. The argument for immeasurable speed is fairly straightforward. If Dialga can physically travel to the past or future whenever it pleases, without relying on portals or external factors, then it would be moving independently of linear time, something akin to immeasurable speeds.

The issue is, of course, that the franchise presents Dialga’s dimensional travel as an ability rather than via pure speed. Similarly even if Dialga can move during stopped time that doesn’t inherently imply speed. If that were the case then DIO and Guldo are both Immeasurable due to moving during stopped time which just isn’t right.

Dialga arguably has infinite speed as he and Palkia seemingly created time and space in an infinite universe, possibly multiple, however assuming his time travel is done via pure speed when it’s just as likely a hax ability feels like too far of an assumption.

Are there more than one Creation Trio (And Giratina’s Rift)?

You may think the answer to how many Dialgas or Palkias is obvious, after all, if Pokémon contains innumerable universes and timelines, then surely there must be a separate Creation Trio for each one, right? After all, somebody has to be maintaining all that reality. The problem is that the lore never gives us a straight answer, and the implications massively affect how you will interpret scaling.

Arguments For Singular:

The strongest evidence for a singular Creation Trio (and thus them scaling to the multiverse) comes from the lore itself, as Arceus is consistently described as creating Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina, not an endless army of them. Also, there was legit nothing before Arceus appeared and made them, so a singular trio would make sense if the multiverse was made from nothing. Legends: Arceus treats the trio as unique entities rather than an innumerable amount (this is also the game where the innumerable statement comes from). Even more interestingly, Giratina's Rift in Legends: Arceus is shown affecting multiple dimensions and timelines simultaneously, yet only one set of Creation Trio members ever becomes relevant to the plot. If there were truly countless Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina roaming the multiverse, you'd expect at least a couple of them to show up when reality starts breaking.

There's also the matter of Palkia's own lore. Multiple sources credit it with creating or governing MULTIPLE dimensions and universes. If those statements are taken literally, then the lone Palkia is already responsible for far more than one universe. Meaning the trio may just exist above reality, using avatars to interact with reality while their true forms remain elsewhere, or the idea of there being multiple in 'true canon' is bunk.

Arguments for Multiple:

The biggest argument against this comes from the idea of multiple save files themselves. Every save file is effectively treated as its own space-time, and players can capture Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina across multiple continuities. Team Rainbow Rocket further complicates matters by introducing alternate versions of Cyrus, who has already captured members of the trio. Then there's the Sinjoh Ruins event, where Arceus casually creates a brand-new member of the Creation Trio despite the universe already functioning perfectly fine without it...?

BUT! The Sinjoh Ruins event could simply be Arceus demonstrating its power to create life rather than proving multiple trios are required for reality to function. Likewise, Team Rainbow Rocket's existence may simply demonstrate that the same legendary can appear at different points in time or through alternate timelines rather than proving there are infinite copies running around, after all we are dealing with the masters of infinite time and space, who can travel to any point at will. Hell, after Rainbow Rocket you can catch your own Trio member via Ultra-Space, which again links to not just dimensions, but timelines too.

TLDR - Multiple Creation Trios makes sense if every universe requires its own gods of time and space. A singular Creation Trio makes more sense if Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina exist above the multiverse and merely project avatars into individual realities, which given our cosmology explanation and what Legends Arceus shows us may be true. Hell Palkia’s dex entry implies just an avatar sustains multiple dimensions. Pokémon never fully commits to either explanation and I want to die. I have spent an hour contemplating this. And if you're looking for an official answer from Game Freak, good luck. We're not entirely convinced they know either and thus how you interpret their lore and feats...really is on you and not some dumb VS Blog.

Giratina’s Rift:

SO! With that out of the way, I mentioned Giratina’s rift before, a high-meta for scaling the Legendaries - the giant space-time rift hanging over Hisui for most of the game. According to the story, the rift was created through Giratina, with the goal of throwing Dialga and Palkia into conflict and forcing Arceus to intervene.

Seems straightforward right? The rift is destabilizing space and time, and reality is slowly falling apart. The problem is figuring out exactly how much reality we're talking about. Depending on the translation, Cogita either refers to 'innumerable' universes being affected or 'several' dimensions becoming intertwined. Still, both versions agree on one important detail - the rift extends beyond a single universe. We also know that it is connected to Dialga’s dimension.

The player is pulled into Hisui from another point in time, while the character Ingo is dragged from an entirely different era as well. The rift repeatedly demonstrates the ability to bridge separate timelines and realities, which is important given Pokémon's love of parallel worlds and alternate timelines throughout the franchise.

That said, there's a difference between affecting multiple universes and destroying an infinite multiverse. The former is strongly supported by the game's events, but the latter depends heavily on how you interpret Cogita's statements, and whether you believe the rift would have eventually spread across the entirety of the cosmology.

TLDR - Giratina's Rift is very clearly affecting more than a single universe. It's just that pinning down a number becomes difficult. It could be a case that it would eventually spread to every timeline since it is directly connected to Dialga’s realm.

Do The Emeralds resist being stolen?

In Sonic Forces Speed Battle, Metal Sonic has a power-up that allows him to steal any item from any opponent, well, any item except the Chaos Emeralds or as they're called in the game, the Super Form Item. So this means The Emeralds can't be stolen by Mewtwo, right? It's a little more complicated than that. The Super Form Item unsurprisingly allows a few select characters to transform into their Super forms, and given that Base Metal Sonic is the one that has the “Steal” item, and he lacks the ability to transform, They’d be forced to give new powers to Metal to compensate which is most likely more effort than its worth. The only caveat to this is that he is able to steal Caliburn, the invincibility item which is a super form for characters lacking one, and the Phantom rubies powers while not having any of those. So it does make you wonder why the Emeralds are special if every other transformation item is fair game. Hell, the ability steal is literally a chao just bum rushing the target, it’s not like it’s telekinesis.

However, there is also the fact that the Chaos Emeralds have been stolen and shifted around in the main continuity plenty of times too. There are arguments for and against this, so some of us might use it for our verdicts and some of us might not.

Is Shadow really immune to diseases? What about the Metal Virus?:

In the IDW comics, as many of you know, Eggman creates a deadly virus known as the Metal Virus. This infects any living thing via touch and turns it into a mindless zombie robot, completely transforming their biology in the process. In the story, it infects everyone, including Shadow himself! But wait, how is that possible? Shouldn’t Shadow be immune to all diseases? Well luckily, we’re given an explanation!

You see, the Metal Virus isn’t just a stagnant, ordinary disease. It’s been repeatedly stated and shown to rapidly grow, mutate, and evolve on its own, something not even Eggman himself anticipated! Shadow was actually shown to be immune to it at first, being able to fight and make direct contact with the zombots for a prolonged period of time before the virus adapted and mutated to finally infect him. What’s more, it’s directly stated by Eggman that the virus spreads more rapidly with repeated exposure.

So the fact that Shadow remained uninfected as long as he did with repetitive contact goes to show just how much the virus had to evolve in order for it to infect him. It’s even directly stated that Eggman had a built in counter to the virus AND Sonic was able to run off the metal virus for a long time through the story, but both were adapted to easily as it became more potent and deadly. This should show that the Metal Virus isn't any ordinary virus and any lesser toxin or viruses likely wouldn’t work on Shadow.

Sonic Cosmology:

The Universe and Multiverse:

Sonic cosmology is somewhat infamous for being confusing so let's start simple.

In terms of Universal feats, there's actually very little reason to assume Sonic's base universe is infinite in size, meaning Universal feats don't automatically become Infinite Speed feats. While locations such as White Space or the Dimension of Time have arguments for being infinite, the ordinary Sonic universe itself doesn't really have statements supporting that.

There’s also the matter of Sonic Prime, we dive more into this during its own BTV segment, but there’s an argument to be had that the Universe may be 6 or so times the size of our own due to interpretations surrounding the Paradox Prisms mechanisms, with the Sonic universe needing to be larger than our own if we believe the Prism physically fragmented reality to house multiple space-times (Debatable).

Then there’s the wider multiverse. There’s a very strong argument to be made that it is infinite in scope due to the Tailstube video linked (along with recent promotional material also implying there are infinite worlds), where Tails explains that time is just a single dimension of reality within the ‘endless possibilities of space’, noting that there ‘could’ be an ‘infinite’ number of Sonics out there! Of course endless does not mean infinite, but it certainly reinforces the multiverse being vast and a lot larger than a small finite value. Tails stating there could be infinite Sonics does improve the infinite multiverse argument a lot, but it is still theoretical. The segment is basically babies first multiverse where Tails speaks informally rather than give a genuine scientific lecture. Basically, he’s sure there’s an endless amount of universes, just uncertain on if there would be infinite Sonics, but his wording still implies an infinite, or at least endless, multiverse.

Maginaryworld:

Maginaryworld from Sonic Shuffle is where things…suck, so let’s break this down. Whether or not this is a planet or universe is a little vague, but universe seems to be the more likely option.

Basically, Maginaryworld contains all dreams in reality, we’ll get into what that means later, but in terms of cosmology, we need to establish what dreams are. Stages in shuffle are good examples of what they look like, showcasing they have a day/night cycle and can contain vast amounts of stars. Outside of Shuffle, we see that dreams in Sonic can take place in Space too, where stars naturally shine. So, at minimum Maginaryworld contains innumerable Multi-Solar System to Galaxy-level structures.

However, Ian Flynn states that dreams in Sonic could be Universe-sized and aren’t limited by their size, meaning Maginaryworld may just be a mini multiverse. It also contains a stage called 4th-Dimension Space, being shaped like a Tesseract as well, plus being described as infinite. It may be interpreted as Maginaryworlds timeline, a valid assumption…however given we know each dream has its own day/night cycle, this may not be the case. We go more into it later, but 4th dimensional space is seen as an encompassing higher-plane over places that may already be 4th dimensional at maximum interpretation, making Maginaryworld 5D at best, and 4D at worst. Just remember, dreams themselves are conceptual like what time is, so arguing that 4th dimensional space is the timeline may not be the best argument, but with that said, it also means the idea of dreams having their own 4th dimensional timeline is also up in the air.

TLDR - It’s a Structure with pocket dimensions at worst, universes at best, encompassed by a ‘4th dimensional’ place. It sucks, I know.

The Exception:

The Exception is a ‘space between dimensions’, more of a crossroads than your average universe. This is where Eggman states he’ll build an Eggmanland that transcends all dimensions (no Goji-Chronic this statement alone does not make base cast 5D as this isn’t a feat). As mentioned with Ultra-Space for Pokémon, this could be seen as a dimensional gateway of sorts, but given how you interpret Eggman’s words and believe it encompasses the worlds it links, it could be seen as 4th or 5th dimensional.

Eggman’s Otherworlds:

The Egg Field is described as an infinite super other-dimensional space, supported by the fact that it could hold several dream worlds inside of it that attempted to bring about Dr. Eggman's "truth" and make it reality.

The Egg Field is 4-5D due to it containing several universes/dream worlds inside of it (making it have a 5D axis by default), being stated to be infinite, and being inferred to have a different dimensionality from Sonic’s main universe, with the use of “super other-dimensional” heavily implying that different dimensionality is superior to the main universe.

Cyber Space:

Cyber Space is a digital dimension that seemingly transcends the main universe, backed up by Eggman stating that Cyber Space is significantly more advanced than any of his creations, including Test Run Maze which holds a Tesseract design within it. Additionally, this dimension is made of information, essentially serving as mega collection of everything regarding anyone who enters, including their memories, hopes, dreams, souls, and the very essence of who someone is, and as well as being a macrocosm of dreams, it is stated to be a dream in of itself. Eggman states that the amount of data within Cyber Space is beyond quantification. Due to the likes of Sonic, Amy, Tails, Knuckles, Eggman, and Sage entering Cyber Space, their memories were also copied and pasted into the realm, which would include 5D realms like Maginaryworld, Eggman’s Otherworlds, White Space, and Time Eater’s layer.

Dodon Pa’s Race Tracks:

In Sonic Racing Crossworlds, Dodon Pa makes simulated race tracks for all the racers to enjoy! All well and good, that man loves racing… but according to Sage, apparently this dude is Eggman and Ancients levels of smart, because these simulated race tracks apparently MATCH CYBER SPACE IN THEIR COMPLEXITY, this would imply that they would share a similar dimensionality, that being 5D… yeah he might be a god ‘-’

White Space:

White Space is the central hub in Sonic x Shadow Generations that remains after the Time Eater destroys all of space-time. It is described as a realm between dimensions that holds the universe together, acting as a hub between timelines and those that have even been erased, containing doorways to areas from the past and the future. The timelines and dimensions are still there, they’re just devoid of colour and life within white space due to being erased. This is reinforced a lot. As such, an argument can be made that White Space transcends the cosmology thus far, encompassing it. The fact it still exists after Time Eaters timeline erasure suggests that, especially since it did so within the base universes. Hell this also implies it was not created by Time Eater either, it was already encompassing reality. Interestingly, Ian Flynn describes White Space as ‘aspatial and atemporal’. Basically, unrelated to space-time. All of this gives us a strong argument for White Space encompassing at least the main Universe and timeline, making it 5D at minimum, and likely a layer above 5D due to reality becoming White Space when erased by Time Eater, which would include multiple 5D realms/constructs, like Maginaryworld, Cyber Space, Eggman’s Otherworlds, and Dodon Pa’s Simulated Race Tracks.

Time Eater’s Lair:

This dimension appears immediately after Modern Sonic and Classic Sonic repair the portal mechanism using the 7 Chaos Emeralds, thus escaping White Space. This and the following dimension remained unaffected by the destruction of all of time and space across all of reality, being "further away" from the rest of the cosmology than White Space itself. Thus, it can be argued as "2 layers" above it in terms of range wise.

The Infinite Tunnel Dimension/End Of Time:

This is the dimension where the battle with Time Eater took place, separate from the previous one and explicitly infinite, where objects from other dimensions may drift here. It is implied to be a time dimension, as flying through it is treated as the same as flying through time itself. This is true despite the fact that the space-time of the multiverse was erased, making it a different and distinct time dimension than the rest of cosmology. Additionally, the Time Eater could alter its flows to even slow down both of the Super Sonics despite showings of Super States being capable of withstanding areas where time is haywire. Thus, the Infinite Tunnel Dimension is seemingly 6D, due to it being a Hypertimeline that encompasses all the rest of the cosmology.

Null Space:

From Sonic Forces, the Phantom Ruby Prototype sends Sonic and The Avatar there. We know it is sealed off from other dimensions. There’s an argument to be had this includes White Space and the Dimension of Time, some arguing it makes it further transcendent.

However, we see during the final boss fight a dimension filled with a starry sky, implying it cosmologically speaking, is a regular pocket dimension, hell an argument exists that since the ruby plays a factor here, it may not exist within the cosmology without it and is moot for scaling to the likes of Solaris.

Solaris’ Dimension:

Now, we don’t know where Solaris comes from, other than the fact it is higher-dimensional and exists at all points in time, alongside its blatant feats of consuming timelines and dimensions, so an argument can be made Solaris is from a dimension beyond what is known, it is superdimensional after all. Whether or not super forms can scale to this dimension is a little tricky to say, since we don’t know if it sustains it, or is simply a resident.

Conclusion:

All in all, taking a look at everything gathered, the more important parts of Sonic’s cosmology in terms of raw scaling consists of the main universe, which is big enough to contain within it 6 separate space-times, the Sol Dimension, which is a direct parallel of Sonic’s dimension and would thus also be big enough to contain within it 6 separate space-times, an infinite multiverse, going by Tails and two instances of promotional material referring to Sonic’s multiverse as such, SEVERAL 5D realms/constructs, and a superimposing Hypertimeline that encompasses the verse.

Putting that all together gives the strongest characters in the verse 6D AP and Durability. Arguments can be made that The Exception and Solaris’ home realm can push the verse a bit higher, but there’s not as much evidence backing it as everything else mentioned above.

Infinite > All Other Sonic Villains? (Please Kill Me):

…Let’s talk about Infinite. If you’re wondering why we are dedicating an entire section to him, unfortunately it’s gonna be VERY important later when we talk about Base Shadow. It also is gonna be important later in the actual verdicts. So unfortunately we have to talk about him, thankfully this section isn’t gonna be very long…hopefully. Introduced in Sonic Forces, The jackal very quickly got his butt kicked by Shadow. Unfortunately, this introduces all kinds of problems for Sonic powerscaling in general. The first reason is a statement regarding Infinite as Sonic’s “strongest enemy yet” from the website. This is even said in-game by Eggman at the beginning of the main story. So then if it’s backed up in-game then it must be true…right?

No…it’s not. For starters, Eggman saying that Infinite is his ultimate weapon or his “greatest creation yet” has COMPLETELY lost all meaning.

While Infinite is definitely powerful with the Phantom Ruby, which is POTENTIALLY equal to that of the Chaos Emeralds (though it is a little bit weaker), not only does Infinite get defeated by Sonic and the player created character, but Eggman also said the Egg Dealer was his latest and greatest creation and it got handled EASILY by Shadow in Shadow 05’. So by that logic a machine stronger than Metal Madness who required a super form to fight is beaten by Base Shadow in the very next game. While yes we can’t deny Sonic’s growth in strength throughout the series, it’s a pretty bold statement to say that Infinite surpasses all of the villains Sonic has faced up to that point, including the likes of The Egg Salamander, The Egg Wizard, The Time Eater and Solaris. And if those statements were true, that means at that point Sonic would be stronger than the other threats that he once needed Super Sonic for. That would also mean that the player created character is stronger than the Time Eater. I’m sure you're smart enough to see potential issues with that.

As proof of Eggman being unreliable, here's a list of nearly every invention/power Eggman has called his “strongest yet”: Metal Sonic in Heroes, the Egg Dealer in Shadow 05, Solaris in Sonic 06, EggmanLand powered by Dark Gaia in Sonic Unleashed, Time Eater in Sonic Generations, all 6 of the Deadly Six in Sonic Lost World, Infinite in Sonic Forces, The End in Sonic Frontiers.

I’m sure there’s not gonna be any more dumb statements surrounding Sonic villains-

Addressing Sonic Villain Misconceptions:

This is gonna be a mini segment since there’s not much to go over. But I feel like people are gonna have questions or say we forgot about these when we really didn’t. Anyways, throughout the years there have been some…interesting statements surrounding some of the villains/mechs. Though in this section we’re only gonna be talking about 4, so let’s get into it.

Sonic Rush: The Egg Salamander

In Sonic Rush, Eggman and Eggman Nega were gonna use the Egg Salamander to make an EggmanLand that “transcends dimensions.” Luckily this statement is pretty easy to debunk. For starters, transcending dimensions by itself doesn’t make something Outerversal, Eggman Nega could simply be implying that the EggmanLand could rule over the other universes. Not only that but “dimensions” in the Sonic World do mean Universes, So the EggmanLand could just be another universe outside the multiverse like other realms like Maginaryworld, Null Space, etc. Simply put this statement isn’t fully gone into. And the fact that people try to make an Outerversal claim out of it is…kinda silly.

Sonic Frontiers: The End

During the final battle against The End, it makes a statement that all of Sonic’s previous adversaries were infinitely weaker than its power. So is this a legit thing?…Well, it’s a slightly better argument than the others but it’s still likely not usable. This is another “I’m stronger than anything you’ve ever fought up to now” statement that, while true, doesn’t have anything else behind it. Sure, The End is very powerful, but to say it’s infinitely above every previous entity Sonic’s fought before doesn’t have anything to back it up with.

Althoughhhhh, given the Final Horizon DLC does lean into the The End currently being the strongest Sonic enemy as its the only entity that has forced Sonic to GO BEYOND Super Sonic, there is precedence for its claims being true. Though, admittedly, neither ending imply that base Super forms are a match for The End, given it takes on both Super Sonic and Sage piloting Supreme in the original ending, and the Final Horizon shows Super Sonic can barely dent Tethered Supreme, so Super Shadow likely doesn’t fully scale.

Sonic Unleashed: Egg Dragoon

…Oh great. This is another "latest and greatest creation” statement (from guidebooks of all things). Except here it’s somehow worse than Infinite. The Egg Dragoon was a mech used by Eggman in Sonic Unleashed and then Sonic Generations. The problem is the Egg Dragoon was defeated by Werehog Sonic and then in Generations it was defeated by Base Sonic. This is pretty easy to decipher why it isn’t the “pinnacle of mad science”…God I’m gonna need a nap after this…what’s next?

To play devil’s advocate though, especially for this beauty of insane engineering, that “guidebook statement” comes directly from one of the collectibles in the game, and is actually backed up by the energy source used to create and maintain its power, that being Dark Gaia’s. That being said, we don’t genuinely believe it outscales creations like the Egg Salamander or Egg Wizard, but it should be reasonable to say it outscales creations like the Super Egg Robo and True Area 53 Boss, both machines capable of tangoing with Adventure Era Super Sonic.

Sonic Lost World: The Deadly Six

You’ve gotta be kidding me. The Deadly Six were introduced in Sonic Lost World, and they’re the main bad guys of the game that are under Eggman’s control until they backstab him and Eggman is forced to team up with Sonic to stop them. That's great…So then why are they stated to be the strongest foes Sonic has faced? Not only do ALL of The Deadly Six get handled by BASE Sonic, but even Tails did some damage against them. Even in the final world, where you have to fight all of them again, they hardly put up much of a fight. Though to be honest, I don't think anybody was gonna argue The Deadly Six at multiversal Level.

While Shadow can get up decently in cosmology (more on that later), these statements aren’t gonna help in any stretch of the imagination. That pretty much does it for this section, so let’s move on before I have both a stroke and a laugh attack from the Deadly Six having a “strongest Sonic foe” statement. What’s next again?

Sonic Speed Arguments:

Like with Pokémon, Sonic has various speed feats that require an evaluation, again less about how they scale to Shadow given the scaling chains mentioned above but more so establishing what is on the table for us when writing up our verdicts.

Eggman's trip to Nonaggression Zone:

A classic case of "everyone mentions it, but nobody explains why." During Advance 3, Super Sonic pursues Ultimate Gemerl to the Nonaggression Zone, with Eggman somehow keeping pace in the Egg Mobile. The feat is often calculated at billions of times faster than light, but where exactly does that number come from?

For one, the gameplay transition lasts only around six seconds. The real argument, however, comes from the background during the fight. Beyond the fact that Nonaggression is somewhere in outer space, the game never tells us how far away it actually is. Note the star-filled background, there's an argument to be made that the sparkling effects resemble a real nebula rather than a generic warp/particle effect. If those are indeed literal stars and a real nebula, the speed values are calced into the billions of times faster than lightish range. I’ve seen people say the ‘stars’ visibly twinkle, lending some credibility to that interpretation, but it’s moreso the color of the ‘nebula’ changes throughout the fight. Ultimately though, this is another feat where the conclusion depends largely on you, the reader.

A counterargument is that after Ultimate Gemerl is defeated, he eventually falls back to Earth. Surely that means the battle couldn't have taken place very far away...right? Well, not necessarily. That assumes Gemerl physically fell all the way back to Earth under his own momentum rather than being pulled back through the same thing that brought everyone there in the first place. Even if he did somehow return conventionally, it doesn't automatically invalidate the original travel feat, it just raises more questions about Nonaggression.

Another counterargument is the timeframe, as it uses the loading-screen as the timeframe. Don’t get the wrong idea, if you use it as a timeframe, the math is fine, but it’s not the strongest argument on the planet and the math could be deemed as invalid if you think this is a poor gauge for timeframe.

TLDR - Feat is valid if we assume the background is a nearby Nebula and the timeframe is literally the loading screen. If you don’t think either are valid to gauge the speed of the eggmobile, the math is bunk (feat is still a legit feat).

Sonic’s CD:

In Sonic CD, Sonic can time travel! Immeasurable feat logic is there…butttt this can be very easily debunked as it’s made blatantly clear in lore that the signs help him travel, it’s not a gameplay mechanic, it’s literally stated in the manuals that he can’t do it normally. Even if he did, it changes nothing, it’s stated that it requires him moving at light speed to travel, debunking the immeasurable scale all together.

The White Space feat you all avoid:

For those unaware, in Generations, Sonic and Shadow enter each level (or point in time in lore) whilst it’s devoid of color and life’ due to the Time Eaters' effect on the multiverse.

This one has been debated for a while now, after all, Tails stating that they ‘accelerate through time and fix space, returning color and life’ is a little vague, and there could be an argument made for this being them basically just re-living events to restore time, but there's a few things wrong with this.
  1. If that was the intention, why didn’t they just say that? Something like ‘they re-live past events resetting them to normal’.
  2. The statements seem to be leaning towards the immeasurable argument (or inaccessible if you are being weird about terminology), after all, they said ‘ACCELERATING’ specifically, why not ‘moving’ or ‘re-living’?
  3. The biggest problem is Classic Sonic, he wasn’t in levels like crisis city, speed highway, seaside hill etc etc, so how can that be counted as ‘re-living’?
  4. The Japanese dub even flat out says its Sonic’s speed doing the work.

You may also want to argue that sonic CD calling time travel light speed debunks this, but there's a difference between traveling through time and restoring a concept with sheer speed (these are points in time as well), and the light speed travel only works with aid from the signs anyway, no evidence only light speed is enough to time travel normally, especially with all the FTL feats listed here.

Even if you wanted to argue a hax argument, the same logic applies…where the hell has Sonic or Shadow ever had an ability like that? It’s the definition of a ‘somehow’ feat for both, but Chaos Energy or something idk. So yeah this should be fine for immeasurable speed.

Black Doom:

Shadow Gens introduced one of the latest major speed feats in the franchise. During the climax, Black Doom spreads his Doom Zone throughout White Space, engulfing the entire area in roughly three seconds.

If we treat White Space as merely the size of a conventional universe, it clocks in at roughly 489 Quadrillion times the speed of light. If you instead buy the higher-end interpretation we mentioned before from Prime, where the original universe contained the equivalent of six complete Shatterspaces, that climbs to around 5.86 Quintillion times light speed.

The feat itself is fine and usable, the debate is more so, “do we stay in finite territory”, or is this “infinite or immeasurable”? Ideally you’ve read the cosmology section already.

For: Basically, White Space is what remains after Time Eater blips away all of space-time, existing between dimensions and acting as a hub for different timelines, described as inter-dimensional, as well as aspatial and atemporal by Ian Flynn. To encompass this, you’d have to dip into higher dimensionality. Doom would be spreading an attack across a realm that encompasses timelines, and given the tunnel of time itself is described as infinite, it gives validity to an infinite speed or immeasurable speed argument.

Against: Just because time doesn’t exist here, doesn’t mean we know how movement here should be treated. You don’t NEED non-finite speeds to traverse a place like White Space, look at Maria! Aspatial and atemporal do not state that travelling through it requires non-finite speeds.

Whilst we’re here, an argument can be made that Doom dips its toes into the cosmology scaling too based on this, but that’s for another time.

Time Eater:

If you don’t buy Shadow scaling at all to Time Eater, this one ain’t for you. Basically, Eggman’s Time Eater…travels through time, huzzah. Throughout Generations it does so via portals, but the debate itself comes from the final boss fight, where the Super Sonics and Temporal Chomper ‘fly through the end of time’ the tunnel of time. So, is this anything noteworthy?

Arguments For: Now it’s noticeable in cutscenes that Time Eater uses portals to travel between time in White Space, but in the finale it is traveling through a temporal realm. If it really does represent all of time, then traversing it could qualify as infinite speed or immeasurable. Even if it isn’t from one end to the other, moving through a structure that embodies time itself would likely mean non-finite speeds.

Arguments Against: If I say to you I walked through a forest or cave, that could mean end-to-end, but it could also mean traversing a fraction of the trees. This argument is sort of similar. The feat itself obviously involves movement through a realm related with time, not  necessarily with moving across the ENTIRETY of time. Let’s be technical with it, Sonic would have to travel from one temporal ‘coordinate’ to the other for this statement to be arguable as immeasurable, simply traversing through this is not immeasurable. If he moved from the past to the future by flying alright fair game. Even if you take into account them flying in and out of the tunnel of time during gameplay it's a bit iffy still, again navigating an axis doesn't mean immeasurable, they are literally moving a few feet over to do so, it comes across as more spatial than temporal ironically. To me (TDG) this comes across as misunderstanding what immeasurable means.

Solaris:

Let’s get this out the way, being Omnipresent does not make you immeasurable, that is a state, not a speed. That being said, Solaris has a non-finite argument outside of that. Solaris originates from a higher-dimension of reality, so an argument can be made about its speed. Additionally, it consumes dimensions and timelines for lunch, and upon awakening in-game, spreads its light/energy across the entire universe in about 19-23 seconds, getting into the quadrillions of times faster then light territory! However, it also spread it across at least 2 other timelines (the past and the future), sparking conversation about if this is immeasurable.

Argument For: For starters, given the cosmology, being above space-time may already grant non-finite speeds off-rip. Additionally, if Solaris fired its energy across all points in time at once, then if we’re being technical here temporal ‘coordinates’ are being crossed.

Argument Against: A huge issue is that Solaris already exists across all points in time, meaning it may just be spreading its energy across that set point, not expanding into others. Plus, consuming a timeline is not the same as traversing one. Not to mention we don’t know if Solaris can traverse through time with speed alone.

Sonic escapes Cyberspace:

In Sonic Frontiers, Sonic is able to escape Cyberspace via clearing the levels, the end attributing this to his own power. This is a separate reality, which means the non-finite speed meta is yet again present:

Arguments for: This is pretty easy to justify, it’s stated to be a separate reality and therefore separate space-time, If Sonic truly escapes it through nothing but his own power, then one could argue he's traversing beyond an entire space-time continuum under his own movement. Knuckles outright states he couldn't escape Cyber Space himself, suggesting simply finding an exit isn't enough. Likewise, The end specifically credits Sonic's own power for allowing him to break free. Plus, Sonic is pretty casual about this.

Arguments against: The issue is how Sonic leaves. Although The End says it's thanks to Sonic's own power, every escape is still visually represented through portals. Hell, escaping via ‘power’ doesn’t even mean he ran out of the boundaries of reality with speed, power could just refer to being able to clear tasks and destroy enemies.

Sonic and The Avatar Escape Null Space:

After being trapped inside Null Space, a space made by the Phantom Ruby sealed off from reality. Sonic and You, The Avatar just…run out of it. Yeah this needs some evaluation:

Arguments for: This… is weird. Null Space is stated to have NOTHING in it, an empty dimension cut off from reality, the Japanese dub states its closed off from any dimension. The presentation of the game shows they just run out of it with the power of friendship, the ‘portal’ only opening as they start running. Eggman acts in disbelief afterwards too, Sonic just ‘ran faster than usual’ apparently. This means non-finite speed is valid.

Arguments against: Despite the statements, we still don’t know if it’s infinite in size or exists transcendently to other areas of the Sonic cosmology. It’s impressive, but not necessarily infinite or immeasurably fast in the traditional sense. There’s also YOU. Yes, YOU may have ruined this feat. Since the Avatar and Sonics friendship and teamwork apparently plays a factor here, you could argue some form of ‘hax’ is relevant here. It also begs the question of did he even run the whole distance or just a small finite area? Or did the Phantom Ruby Prototype just not contain the blue rat? With that said the infinite argument is still there.

…oh yeah Infinite Night Palace feat ain’t a feat since it’s from a prima guide and we don’t know if Sonic ran across all of it. Stop larping.

Team Mewtwo:

May be a minority opinion, but Death Battle already got the outcome correct, and will do so again. Time to explain why

Strategy:

Starting with Experience, and this is tricky, as while Shadow has technically existed over 50-years, but most of said time taking the world’s longest nap. Mewtwo also hasn’t spent every minute fighting, but has travelled the world, fought trainers, wild Pokemon and Legendaries, with experience against plenty of unusual abilities. Both have encountered reality warpers, and various supernatural threats. So, experience is roughly even.

Skill is a little more complicated, Shadow having the clearer argument for combat skill, fighting Sonic and Knuckles several times, has G.U.N. Training, has wielded plenty of firearms, and has more experience with straight hands.

But what really mattered here, is the intelligence gap, because Mewtwo is really fucking smart! Pokemon like Alakazam have an IQ exceeding 5,000, Metagross is as smart as a Supercomputer, and Mewtwo is one of the smartest Pokemon in existence. Not only did it create cloning technology, it manipulated an entire group of Trainers into coming to New Island, adapted quickly to society despite having no real-world experience, and is literally designed to be the ultimate Pokemon in combat, with Mega Mewtwo Y buffing said intellect further.

Shadow’s not an idiot, but even if we took the 200 IQ statement as 100% serious, he’s not even in the same universe as Mewtwo’s intelligence. More importantly, Mewtwo can read Shadow’s mind. That’s obviously a giant advantage, as it allows Mewtwo to not only stay one step ahead of Shadow at every point of the fight, but also gives him access to Shadow’s history, arsenal, and weaknesses. This would allow Mewtwo to react before Shadow moves his body to time stop, and adjust its strategy accordingly.

Precognition would also make this more obnoxious, yeah Shadow is more technical, but he simply could not plan ahead against Mewtwo. Look Mewtwo had some exploitable abilities as we’ll cover soon, but knowing about them and figuring them out mid-fight is different. He can't immediately look at Power Swap and go "ah yes, the Psychic-type status move introduced in Generation IV which exchanges changes to Attack and Special Attack." Meanwhile, Mewtwo can potentially know what Shadow is planning before the battle even starts.

And that’s what gives this to Mewtwo, Shadow is a more conventional fighter yes, and his experience matched Mewtwo’s. But Mewtwo is SIGNIFICANTLY smarter and could exploit Shadow’s weaknesses and intellect at the start of the fight.

Edge: Mewtwo.

Stats:

Things get interesting here, since none of us really needed to argue a stat-stomp to claim he beats Shadow.

But, we believe there is a legitimate argument that Mewtwo matches Base Shadow. Mewtwo’s scaling mostly circled back to the Creation Trio. Dialga’s roar of time and status as the origin of said time, Palkia expanding space, and Giratina maintaining balance between the Normal and Distortion World is about as simple as you can get for cosmic feats. Meaning arguing Universal+ or even Low Multiversal Mewtwo is fine through statements of Palkia creating multiple Universes, and Giratina’s Rift threatening multiple Universes.

And it doesn’t stop there either, Ultra-Space connects an infinite number of worlds and timelines, and Palkia has arguments for being responsible for its creation. If we treat Ultra-Space as a structure that encompasses said Universes rather than just a gateway, that’s a genuine Multiversal+ - 5D feat Mewtwo can scale to.

The controversial part is of course, getting Mewtwo there, as unlike a lot of the opposing side, we’re pretty comfortable with Creation Trio scaling. Giovanni’s Mega Mewtwo is the final challenge beyond even Cyrus and his Dialga or Palkia. Ash Ketchum claims Mewtwo is still one of, if not the strongest Pokemon despite his top mons clashing with the likes of Dialga and Giratina. Even scaling through Darkai gives Mewtwo a genuine avenue. But didn’t Darkrai narrowly survive the attack from Dialga and Palkia? Yes…but Swinub, Ursaring and Dragonite have all harmed the Trio before, so Darkrai's durability doesn’t play much of a factor here. The point is, dismissing Creation Trio scaling is a bit harsh.

Shadow wasn’t lacking feats himself either, The Paradox Prism fractured reality into six space-times, giving Base Shadow some decent Low Multiversal scaling through Sonic surviving it. Erazor Djinn absorbed over half of the Arabian Nights, which contains hundreds of different stories/worlds depending on your interpretation. The Babylon Guardian is another Universal threat, and scaling to the rest of the base cast gives Shadow reason to scale to Void and Maginaryworld, a structure containing countless Dreams and a higher-dimensional realm.

So both could match each other in Base, as the arguments make it too close to call. But then Shadow starts glowing…and yeahhhh we’re not idiots. Super Shadow directly fought Solaris. Solaris existed throughout multiple points of time simultaneously. Similarly, Super Shadow can also scale to Time Eater, who erased multiple Timelines and Dimensions from the cosmology. So, depending on your cosmology stance, that’s Multiversal+ at a minimum, but likely anywhere from 5-6D, possibly 7D if you wish to push it. There’s obviously some debate on the exact placement, but it didn’t really matter since Mega Mewtwo could not surpass Super Shadow in raw AP.

The important question for us is Speed. Mewtwo’s safer Finite-Ends include Solgaelo and Lunala traversing Ultra-Space at roughly 1 Billion X FTL, and returning Necrozma’s stolen light giving us roughly 3.71-9.27 Billion X FTL. Darkrai resisting and outpacing the Dark Void consuming 2 Universes gives us roughly 4.58 Quadrillion X FTL.

Shadow…still beats these finite-ends. Master Core: ABIS moving Galaxies has been calced to almost 200 Quadrillion X FTL, and being comparable to Solaris’ light can get to 77-400 Quadrillion X FTL. That's 18-84x faster than Mewtwo.

But we don’t believe it stops there. Mewtwo has a few Infinite speed arguments through Solgaleo and Lunala traversing the potentially Infinite Ultra-Space. And even if controversial, Dialga and Rotom have feats of traversing through or travelling through time, giving us potential Immeasurable speed arguments if these are seen as movement-based rather than abilities. You could also interpret Palkia hitting Darkrai, and Darkrai hitting the player in Mystery Dungeon whilst time travelling as Immeasurable, but we do acknowledge how iffy this specific argument is.

Shadow’s immeasurable arguments are less controversial. Scaling to Sonic, Solaris and Time Eater as well as restoring sections of White Space provides us a much cleaner argument. So, we have two broad interpretations, as Shadow is a lot faster on Finite-Ends, but some of us believe Mewtwo can reach Immeasurable, equaling speed, but we did not reach a unanimous verdict on if Shadow is faster, or if speed equalised.

But we didn’t NEED Mewtwo to be so much faster, if Mewtwo starts comparable in speed than that’s great, but if Mewtwo is so much slower, that’s what Speed Swap is for…we’ll get there. The important part is that even though Shadow was stronger, at least in Super, and maybe faster depending on which of us you ask, Mewtwo can survive and react long enough to pull off the only category he needed to win - abilities.

Edge - Shadow (Power), Shadow for Speed or a tie.

Arsenal & Abilities:

And here we fucking go. This was our entire argument. Shadows arsenal is nuts, as Chaos Spear can bypass barriers, Chaos Control gives him teleportation and a time stop, Wisps grant a variety of hax and elemental abilities, his firearms give him plenty of ranged options, and his equipment grant him stat amps, rings, and so on. The Chaos Emeralds alone grant him an insane power boost alongside a few absurd resistances. So just looking at Equipment, Shadow wins, but in terms of actual powers? Good luck comparing to an RPG character.

Mewtwo has access to an absurd number of moves, and abilities, gameplay restrictions aside of course as due to its massive intellect, there isn’t much reason to restrict Mewtwo to just four-moves he knows. This gives Mewtwo elemental powers, psychokinesis, teleportation, barriers, status effects, healing, battlefield control, power manipulation, item fuckery, mind reading, precognition, memory manipulation, and more! He has several ways of bypassing the AP gap no issue.

Now yes, Shadow resisted a lot of it. Mind manipulation through Black Doom, the Emeralds protect Shadow from memory alteration like with the Egg Field, Chaos Control is a clear counter to BFR and other restraints, Chaos Spear bypassed barriers, his biology and equipment covered a few status effects, and you COULD argue counters to transmutation, power absorption, and energy absorption.

We’re not arguing his ENTIRE movepool is everything he’ll need, it’s arguing that enough of the important shit did. Miracle Eye being one of the most interesting arguments. Its purpose is allowing Psychic-Type attacks to bypass immunity that normally prevents them from working. Meaning Mewtwo could potentially bypass Shadow’s resistance to mind fuckery. It’s obviously debatable, but it is a legitimate possibility.

Memory Manipulation is another potential game-changer, if you interpret the resistance as something exclusive to Super Shadow rather than something caused by simply carrying one emerald, Mewtwo could potentially wipe Shadow before he transforms. Don’t get us wrong, he’s fought well as an amnesiac before, but resetting his knowledge of Mewtwo and his abilities would be deadly.

Then there’s Mewtwo’s Chaos Emerald problem. Mewtwo has Trick, Knock Off, Psychokinesis and Teleportation, all ways of separating Shadow’s equipment from Shadow. There’s disagreement on if these would work on the Chaos Emeralds specifically; Pokemon prevents moves like Trick and Knock Off from working on Mega Stones and Z-Crystals, so an argument can be had that the Emeralds fall under a similar logic.

But even if we don’t grant Mewtwo the ability to just yoink the Emeralds, there exists a much funnier answer - Power Swap! An ability that allows Mewtwo to swap his power with the opponent (the anime confirms this is just raw power unlike the games stat amps), which could include the very stat transformation gained by transforming. Meaning if Mewtwo lands it on Super Shadow…Shadow has a bit of an uphill battle now. It’s obviously not an instant guaranteed win, Power Swap has limited range and Mewtwo has to actually land it first, with Shadow’s speed making that very risky, but that’s where Mewtwo’s other abilities come in.

Enter Trick Room, which reverses the speed of both fighters. Look it’s not a perfect argument as Shadow could just break out of it, but Shadow doesn’t enter this battle knowing that. Mewtwo knows what Shadow’s abilities do because it can read his mind; Shadow doesn’t get the same free tutorial. Imagine what’d happen if it activates whilst Super Shadow is active! Then there’s Speed Swap, a move that directly exchanges both fighters’ speed stats, so even if we reject Immeasurable Mewtwo and claim Shadow is so much faster, Mewtwo’s peasant speed becomes Shadow’s.

What’s even more deadly is how well these abilities synergize. Think about it, if Speed Swap lands, Power Swap becomes easier, Trick Room gives another avenue to land either Swap, and landing Power Swap means Shadow barely has anything that can assist him against Mewtwo. Combined with precognition and mind reading and this entire debate becomes not so debatable.

There’s still another piece of the puzzle, soul ripping! Mewtwo can transfer souls between bodies, whilst Shadow has resisted attempts to control his soul, but resisting control or corruption isn’t the same as having it yoinked out, giving Mewtwo the perfect durability-negating wincon. The problem is landing it…which brings us back to Speed Swap and Trick Room.

Mewtwo’s healing is another huge advantage here, as Recover has literally brought it back from its heart being stopped, so Shadow landing one fatal attack isn’t enough unless it’s destructive enough to destroy Mewtwo fully, which through everything we’ve talked about is going to be difficult if Power Swap is pulled off.

Shadow’s biggest answer to all of this is Chaos Control, as Mewtwo doesn’t possess a resistance to a time stop, and if Shadow pulls that off near the start of the fight it could be over. Thankfully Mewtwo had ways to prevent Shadow from activating it through Mind Reading, Precognition, and Teleportation. It’s not guaranteed, but neither is Speed Swap being evaded.

Shadow’s abilities are straightforward, and Mewtwo’s are weirder. Shadow can resist certain things yes, but Mewtwo would know how to approach it from a different angle. Mind Control? Miracle Eye. Speed diff? Speed Swap. Power diff? Power Swap. Durability diff? Soul Swap.

Super Shadow? Goodbye Emeralds. All Mewtwo needs is to land one of these to secure victory.

Edge: Mewtwo.

Conclusion:

So yeah, Hax-Man wins.

It’s hard to deny Shadow’s advantages: Super Shadow is stronger, he has better finite speed scaling, has better non-finite arguments, Chaos Control is dangerous, his equipment is better, and he resisted a LOT of Mewtwo’s arsenal. If this came down to just stats Mewtwo loses. But Mewtwo doesn’t play punchies.

Mewtwo’s intellect means it’s far more likely to understand Shadow’s arsenal light-years before Shadow could understand Mewtwo’s. Mind Reading exposed Shadow’s plans and the Emeralds to them. Precognition gave it another means of anticipating attacks. And most importantly, Mewtwo could attack Shadow’s advantages directly with Power Swap, Speed Swap, Trick Room, stealing the Emeralds, attacking Shadow’s soul, Miracle Eye etc.

Shadow’s advantages are great, but not permanent. Mewtwo simply had to survive long enough to prevent that stat gap from mattering. This time, brain beats brawn.

The Winner is Mewtwo!

Advantages:

     Far Superior Intellect.

     Mind Reading and Precognition.

     Far more Versatile.

Direct Counters to Shadow’s Stat Advantage…

Soul-Ripping could end the fight instantly.

     Superior Healing.

Can potentially match Base Shadow in AP.

Can likely steal or prevent the use of Shadow’s Equipment.

     Darth-Maul Spoon.

Disadvantages:

Gets AP stomped by Super Shadow.

     Potentially Slower.

     Many Abilities are Resisted.

     Inferior Equipment.

… But most Win-Cons require setup and are reliant on Shadow not avoiding them.

Chaos Control is a major Problem.

GameFreak does nothing good with him.

Team Shadow:

Here we are, the day has come to prove why Death Battle was incorrect all those years ago (ok obviously they were wrong on both sides but the overall verdict is where the main issue lies). This matchup isn’t easy, but we think Shadow takes this more times than not. A lot of us have differing opinions so we’ll try to break this down to show how non-linear this matchup is.

Strategy:

Starting with intellect…yeah let’s get one of Mewtwo’s biggest advantages out of the way. Don’t get us wrong, if we take Sonic 06 NPC 100% seriously Shadow has an IQ of 200, and you thought Solaris was the most impactful feat for Shadow (likely an outlier don’t worry). Shadow has also received formal G.U.N. training, regularly deals with Eggman’s bullshit, and has examples of figuring stuff out on the fly. But Mewtwo is Mewtwo. An easy contender for smartest Pokemon, as shown as early as the First Movie, Mewtwo recreated the very experiments that created it, forming a vast clone army. It will also take its time to analyse a situation most of the time (depends on the continuity of course). Mega Mewtwo Y only pushes the intellect further according to the Pokedex.

Then Mewtwo gets to cheat! Mind reading is VERY useful in any situation, especially with someone who draws its maximum potential from items such as the Chaos Emeralds. Additionally, Mewtwo can figure out whatever it is Shadow is planning before Shadow takes action - combined with limited precognition abilities and stated adaptability, Mewtwo would probably come up with the better gameplan here.

Skill on the other hand, flipped things around. Mewtwo has fought plenty of powerful foes, whether they be Trainers or Legendaries across all continuities, accompanied by its focus on its powers rather than brute force and this isn’t a wash by any means. But Shadow has thrown hands with Sonic, Knuckles and other skilled combatants, received actual combat training, mastered dozens of weapons, and has defeated Emerl, whose ability to absorb and copy fighting styles gave us a perfect reason to give Shadow the lead in adaptability. Basically, if this took place in a cage with no powers…don’t bet on Mewtwo.

What about experience? Well it’s the trickiest of the main 3 categories to decide. Mewtwo’s longer active combat experience and history battling Pokemon may give it the edge here, but some of us believe Shadow’s more consistent experience battling world-ending threats would give him the edge here. Not just that, but Shadow has battled foes with: Psychokinesis, Mind Manipulation, Regeneration, Reality Warping and other weird shit before, whilst Mewtwo has never fought anyone in mainline canon who can stop time completely.

Still, Mewtwo’s intellect could make that last point moot, you don’t need to be too intelligent to understand Shadow’s arsenal, and mind reading makes learning about Shadow substantially easier than it would be for most opponents.

So…now what? Well overall Tertiary Factors end up going barely to one side or the other. Shadow’s skill and experience are impressive, but Mewtwo’s intellect and adaptability with Mind Reading are debatably a bigger edge, and it would know about Shadow’s arsenal before Shadow would know about Mewtwo’s. However, Mewtwo isn’t anything special to Shadow, whilst Shadow is new to Mewtwo, strange isn’t it.

Verdict - Tie.

Stats:

Nobody will enjoy this part but we gotta push through. Easily the biggest headache of the entire debate. Look we’ve done this debate before (not very well), and have recently elaborated on why Kyogre VS Chaos is as disgusting to explain as it is, and I hope the BTV’s did a good job at telling you why stats for both are tricky…but we think a very Shadow-centered answer is the outcome here.

Mewtwo directly can create a dimension with a starry sky, this is a pretty blatant Multi-Solar System feat, Galaxy to universal if you really want to push it. From there, Mewtwo has fought against Darkrai and could be argued to be relative to the highest tier Pokemon. This is due to the fact that Darkrai can briefly block dimension-ending attacks from Dialga and Palkia before being overwhelmed afterwards. This gives us some level of downscaling to the likes of Giratina’s rift that threatened a vague chunk of the cosmology, at the very least the universe they resided in, with Dialga literally controlling time, and Palkia being the master of spatial dimensions, with statements of creating multiple universes. This really does depend on who you’re asking here, Universal+, Low Multi, or even Multiversal+ are all arguments spread throughout our team.

And yes, there are arguments for higher, as some arguments for their own realms as well as ares such as Ultra-Space could push them up to 5D, Hell in Legends Z-A, Mega Darkrai created Hyperspace Lumiose after being charged by years of Mega Evolution energy, which, and we gotta emphasise the key word again, COULD push Mega Mewtwo into 5D depending on how literally you interpret the various statements. Although it being just a city-sized pocket dimension is what a lot of us see this as.

The problem is how directly Mewtwo gets there, again Darkrai does not scale to the full output of the Creation Trio, like he died after the second attack. By extension, this lowers the validity of Mewtwo gaining maximum scaling. Mewtwo also required its Mega Evolution against the likes of 50% Zygarde, and even then is stated to and shown to not be fully scalable, making placing base Mewtwo at the top of the food chain less likely. Look Team Rainbow Rocket provides an avenue, but it’s possible Giovanni is the final boss because…it’s his faction, the player already having a bunch of OP Pokemon doesn’t mean Mewtwo (and by extension the rest of Giovanni’s team) scales above Cyrus and his Dialga/Palkia. Even the Hoopa movie doesn’t fully prove the likes of Kyreum and Rayquaza scale to the Creation Trio fully, just because you can hit something well and beam clash with help, does not mean you fully scale to someone. Some of us are happy to grant Creation Trio scaling, some of us aren’t so convinced of the full scaling being applicable.

Whilst we’re here the fact Mewtwo hasn’t had any direct confrontation with Arceus or the Creation Trio is genuinely insane. Give this man some direct scaling and stop the dried-up hidden boss routine.

Anyways, Shadow’s route up the tier list is considerably clearer. Even without discussing Super Shadow, Base Shadow can scale to Sonic surviving the Paradox Prism exploding in his face, now he did get knocked unconscious here, but some measure of downscaling is reasonable (plus the emeralds can just revive Shadow). The Prism splintered the universe into several pocket dimensions, potentially space-times depending on your interpretation. Sonic also defeated Erazor Djinn, as well as destroyed the Egg Dragoon, a mech blatantly above previous mechs that can match Super Sonic in the Advance Era (Dark Gaia’s power can also stagger Super Sonic, which the Dragoon draws upon). Perfect Chaos is also another threat that scales to the baseline power of the Chaos Emeralds. Said emeralds can merge Sonic and Blaze's realities and destroy the universe (debatably 12x universal depending on how you account for Sonic Prime). So Base Shadow can scale anywhere from Universal - Low Multi.

Then we factor in both Super Shadow and Evolved Shadow. With only part of his full Doom Powers unlocked, Shadow bested Metal Overlord, who originally required charged Chaos Emeralds and 3 Super Forms to defeat. His Evolved state later went on to best Neo Devil Doom, who’s power could threaten that of White Space (and possibly even the Hypertimeline if you buy into that stuff). And Super Shadow directly fought Solaris, a temporally omnipresent, super-dimensional lifeform that threatened the entire cosmology. The Time Eater also wiped out a majority of the cosmology as well, and is able to manipulate the verse’s Hypertimeline (again, if you buy into it), who Super Sonic bested.

Through structures such as Maginaryworld, The Exception, and White Space, 5D Super forms are more than valid. Factoring in the Time Eater’s Realm and the Infinite Tunnel Dimension and MAYBE Solaris’ Realm (this one is iffy to use for scaling), and a 6D argument is there if you believe Time Eater, Solaris and Black Doom can scale. 7D arguments do exist but some of us believe this is taking things a bit too far. Regardless, delicious dimensional slop is unfortunately valid for Shadows forms. Shadow had far clearer scaling, and could actually fully scale without jumping through hoops, even ignoring any dimensional tiering.

Shadow could even further this gap mid-battle. Sonic Racing CrossWorlds has given Shadow several Ring generation and stat amplification perks. For instance, Item Attack Bounty rewards rings for landing attacks, while the Hyper Ring Engine turns said rings into stat trinity buffs. The Ice Breaker Trail can make a single ring pickup worth a shit load more, alongside Chao and Fast Friends to constantly amp his stats. So if it's not obvious, there’s plenty to pick from here. Add the removal of Shadow’s inhibitor Rings and even if you claimed this battle is equal stats, it ain’t staying that way.

But Mewtwo had its perks as well through Calm Mind, the Berserk Gene, Mega Evolution and other stat boosts. But none of those are as impressive as Shadow’s constantly increasing pile of Rings where every action could make him stronger and increase his ring time limit.

Durability follows suit, and Mewtwo has fantastic survivability no argument, they’re literally able to use Recover to restart their heart after being impaled through the chest. So simply dealing a regular lethal wound isn’t enough, but given the power gap, it’s possible a single Chaos Blast is all Shadow needed to secure a victory and annihilate Mewtwo’s organs and cells, especially since the Solaris fight shows Shadow’s regen nullification and how potent it can be.

Then we get to speed. Mewtwo scales to Solgaleo and Lunala traversing thousands of light-years in minutes, around 1 Billion X FTL. If we take Darkrai's feat of resisting the pull of the Dark Void as him literally outpacing its pull, we can get Darkrai to 4.58 Quadrillion X FTL! And if you really want to push Creation Trio scaling, Dialga and Palkia moving galaxies is another feat in the Billions range.

Now for Shadow. This feat is contested a little but Shadow did seemingly warp in-tandem with the Paradox Prism exploding. If we take the weird framing aside and see this as literally in-tandem movement…that’s 4.4 Quintillion X FTL! If you don’t buy into that feat it’s no worry anymore, as even being very stingy to Black Doom’s feat of spreading across White Space in seconds and only using an average Universe for the radius, that’s still 489 Quadrillion X FTL! So, Shadow is hundreds-thousands of times faster than Mewtwo on Finite-Ends.

Now for everyone’s favourite part of the discussion, the Non-Finite ends. Ultra Necrozma lighting up all of Ultra-Space is a very solid Infinite speed feat. As mentioned earlier some of us are iffy on fully scaling Mewtwo to the top of the food chain, especially with how 100% Zygarde with help struggled against Necrozma. Dialga has an argument via its ability to travel through time, but there’s nothing to suggest this isn’t just via a portal or hax ability.

Shadow meanwhile had some much cleaner arguments, such as our old friend White Space! Yes yes we know Death Battle, G1, and probably some of you hate this feat but…the arguments against it don’t really work for any of us really. Sonic and Shadow can restore areas of removed time via ‘acceleration’, and the Japanese version of the game reinforces it being done via speed alone rather than any form of hax. White Space isn’t a ‘White Void’, and literally none of the guidebooks for the game mention any form of hax, so that argument can get thrown out the window. There are also other arguments like with Null Space and Cyberspace (some of us aren’t in agreement), Black Doom's feat is likely Infinite speed, and if you interpret Solaris’ attacks as travelling across time and space-times then another Non-Finite argument arises. And if you really want to use the Hypertimeline interpretation, you can argue a higher-degree of Immeasurable speed through Sonic travelling through higher dimensional-axis, but some of us aren’t huge on the idea or the feat in general being considered a speed feat.

Look TL:DR you don’t need to even buy into immeasurable speed Shadow for him to take Speed. In general, Shadow takes the low-ends and high-ends of Power, and the Non-Finite and Finite ends for Speed. Not to mention the various ring amps Shadow had access to.

Edge - Shadow pretty handedly.

Arsenal & Abilities:

You know what they say, save the best until last! Look, if Mewtwo didn’t have the arsenal it had I’d have placed this above Stats and saved that until last, but thanks to his insanely wide arsenal, Mewtwo would genuinely be the trickiest opponent Shadow has ever faced. Everything from Psychokinesis, Teleportation, Mind Reading, Mind Control, Memory Manipulation, Barriers, Elemental Attacks, Regeneration, Energy Absorption, Stat Manipulation, Power Nullification, Sealing, Battlefield Removal, Petrification, Precognition, Soul Manipulation, Item Theft, Status Effects, Trick Room, Speed Swap, Power Swap, Guard Swap, Psych Up, Heal Block… Role Play… Mewtwo has a lot of shit.

Unlike Shadow, Mewtwo doesn't require Emeralds or a transformation to unlock most of its hax, and this means Mewtwo can begin to control the battle immediately. Its Psychokinesis can keep Shadow at range, teleportation makes pinning Mewtwo down tricky, barriers grant extra defence, Recover lets it undo damage and so on - Mewtwo takes raw Versatility.

Speed Swap could be tricky given the Speed gap, outright swapping their speeds if landed. Trick Room is a bit weirder but it could also flip the speeds of both. Power Swap and Guard Swap could also flip the stat gap, Psych Up can copy Shadow’s buffs, Heal Block can interfere with recovery, and Magic Room could impair Shadow’s weaponry. Some of us are admittedly iffy on taking gameplay moves literally, but the anime has showcased that moves like Power Swap can directly swap the power of both fighters, but they’d at least give Mewtwo options to tackle the stat gap head on.

Mewtwo outright stealing the Chaos Emeralds is another legitimate route to victory, being smart enough to realise their importance, and with Trick, Psychokinesis and Teleportation, depriving Shadow of his Super Form is possible, making the power gap far more manageable. The problem? Keeping the Emeralds away from Shadow for long.

However, the Emeralds can be recalled, or Shadow can teleport and immediately contest Mewtwo trying to rob him, and Chaos Control alone gives a clear avenue to prevent nearly all of the previous abilities. Mewtwo can steal the Emeralds, but making it permanent isn’t likely.

Mind Control and Memory Erasure also would have been excellent…but Black Doom and Ifrit give him direct showings of resisting mental interference - it’s literally part of the lore that Shadow brushed off Mind Control to save the day in Shadow 05! The Emeralds have also demonstrated protection against memory alteration, and even amnesia doesn’t take away Shadow’s ability to fight thanks to Gerald’s pre-installed combat expertise (even if he’s glowing). Mewtwo could still read Shadow’s mind as mentioned earlier, but rewriting it is a different story.

Soul Manipulation caused some disagreement among us. Black Doom stated he would control Shadow’s mind, body and soul, which if taken literally implied Shadow had a resistance to Soul-related hax. On the other hand, some believe that resisting soul control/corruption isn’t the same as Mewtwo just dangling it out and transferring it elsewhere. This did require a crazed state in the film, but if the Berserk Genes somehow got into Shadow, it’s not impossible Mewtwo could create the state required for soul transference. Yep, inject Shadow with genetic drugs and pop his soul out, it’s THAT simple Mewtwo you got this! Thankfully as seen with the Metal Virus, it takes a virus that’s already fairly out of control and rapidly adapting to affect Shadow.

Petrification is also messy to discuss. Some of us believe this is a fairly clean wincon for Mewtwo, but some of us believe Shadow’s transmutation resistances could brush this off, hell since Super Sonic brushed off the Metal Virus this could be a similar case theoretically. There’s also the fact that life energy seems to repel the petrification, which Shadow should have in spades. Energy Absorption could weaken Shadow or the Emeralds, but so long as Shadow retains Positive or Negative energy he should be able to recharge them should this occur. Power Nullification also wasn’t much of an option since Shadow overcame Black Doom’s Nullification somehow, and that’s just base form!

BFR and Sealing? Both can teleport across dimensions, or just avoid the attack all together. Status Effects? Shadow has resisted a shocking amount of Mewtwo’s arsenal already. Psychokinesis? Useful! But still runs into the issue of Shadow just teleporting out of it without physically moving, and thanks to Silver, this is nothing Shadow hasn’t fought before. Barriers? Chaos Spear has negated energy barriers before, similar to moves like Brick Break. Regeneration? Given what we stated in Resistances about Solaris it’s possible Super Shadow can negate this to an extent, hell his Sonic Battle abilities can distort space, suggesting he could impair Mewtwo’s healing. Miracle Eye? Even by pokemon rules it shouldn’t work on Shadow unless you assume he's also a dark type for some reason. And yeah as funny of a wincon as Mewtwo Cancer/ Berserk Genes is, the guy who’s entire creation is about curing diseases probably won’t have much to worry about there. Hell the Jade Wisp allows intangibility against physical attacks. Gerald really did prep Shadow for powerscaling debates.

So yeah, a lot of Mewtwo’s wincons in most debates line-up suspiciously poorly with Shadow’s list of resistances. Look there’s obviously some individual disagreement about how each interaction would go and that’s fine, but the overall trend remained - Shadow had answers to a good chunk of Mewtwo’s arsenal.

But what of the opposite? It’s not looking good, Mewtwo bros. Mewtwo can teleport out of BFR, Heal wounds, protect itself from Status Effects, and play with Shadow's lesser options like projectiles…what the fuck is it doing against Chaos Control? Mewtwo can stop tim- no he can’t. He can SLOW time and its own perceptions but saying it can outright stop time is very magnanimous. Even if we take that one Pokken cutscene as a time stop, those abilities seemingly only apply to the world  Mewtwo created, and not in the real world. Chaos Control can activate whilst time doesn’t exist somehow, and Shadow can even resist Metal Overlord, and break out of Black Doom’s Chaos Control, implying a time stop likely won’t do anything to him!

Then there’s Super Shadow. Besides giving Shadow the raw stats discussed before, there’s additional resistances, durability/regen negation, and as shown by Super Sonic, blatant Power Nullification. Mewtwo’s best option is really to stall until it gets a chance to pull off a Mind Read and pop a stat change. And as mentioned earlier, Shadow has a lot of items that can assist with replenishing rings. And that’s the issue, having to evade a continuously growing Super Shadow whilst being unable to react fast enough to pull off any hax leaves Mewtwo with not a lot of options here.

Mewtwo has more win conditions on paper, yet has the less reliable ones in practice - big difference. Mewtwo could steal the Emeralds early, land a good stat manipulation move, petrify Shadow, inject its genes and then yoink out Shadow’s soul…but they’re all very situational and require stacking a lot of abilities on top of each other. It’s not an ability stomp because of all of these abilities thankfully, hell some of us argue this category is a tie…but stopping time and hitting Mewtwo really fucking hard is a lot simpler no matter which way you push it. Oh and also nullifying barriers, possibly negating its regeneration, draining energy, stat amplification and so on. Sometimes ease of use is all you need.

Edge: Shadow, narrowly.

Conclusion:

Mewtwo is smarter, more versatile, can read Shadow’s mind, identify the Chaos Emeralds as a Trump Card, manipulate stats, steal equipment and so on. This isn’t a 100-0 matchup by any means. The issue being Mewtwo needed its advantages more than Shadow needed his.

Mewtwo’s intellect mattered to figure out a plan against Shadow’s resistances. Versatility matters since its main tricks would not work. Battlefield Control mattered because letting Shadow dictate the fight meant Game Over. And Regeneration mattered because even a slap from Shadow could injure Mewtwo harder than any opponent it has faced before.

Shadow just didn’t share this problem, he’s faster, stronger, can amplify his stats and time limit more reliably than Mewtwo. And Mewtwo most dangerously does not possess Chaos Control or even half of the absurd list of resistances Shadow has developed.

Look, some of us of course differ on the speed and power gaps closeness (mainly CT scaling, if Sonic surpassed 5D, and Mewtwo’s speed arguments), as well as some specific ability interactions mentioned in the verdict. But if this matchup had to be summed up: Mewtwo has to create a path to victory, Shadow already had one.

Advantages:

Higher Attack Potency regardless of ends.

     Superior Speed regardless of ends.

Can Snowball his stat advantage with various items.

     Superior Combat Skill.

     Suspiciously Mewtwo-Shaped resistances.

     Chaos Control.

     Simpler Wincons.

Is Cole MacGrath according to Death Battle, and that’s fucking rad.

Disadvantages:

     Not as intelligent.

     Less Versatile.

     Susceptible to Mind Reading.

Base Shadow is potentially vulnerable to a lot more of Mewtwo’s wincons.

May lose The Emeralds if not careful.

Petrification and Soul Manipulation may still have an impact.

     Isn’t in Smash.

Final Tally:

Mewtwo -  BlursedSV, Man Of Action, SoggyWafflesXp (3)

Shadow -  Bridgette, El Cato, FinalCometVA, Lonewolf, Melody, Mugen Kage, Radiant Claire, The Drunk Giraffe, The Elk (9)

Final Word from TDG:

So Mewtwo VS Shadow, the rematch is finally happening, and we’re all excited. We hope you enjoyed this streamlined, yet more detailed blog on the matchup, as I personally do not like the original blog, but I’m more than happy with  this one turned out.

Big shoutout to Mugen and Claire for carrying the research here, I took more of a backseat this time due to other priorities and only really wrote the team verdicts, so credit where it’s due to the Giraffe Herd! Don’t feel like the result for this will be too controversial thankfully unlike Kyogre VS Chaos, but it’s been interesting to see how much both sides' arguments have changed since last time. I don’t really have too much to say here other than check out the Mewtwo VS Shadow video we have upcoming on my channel! With all that said, hope you guys enjoyed the read, stay safe, and as always, be excellent to each other :)
